NON-NOMINAL AND ANONYMOUS HIV TESTING IN FREDERICTON

Main List

Want an HIV test, yet concerned about anonymity? Testing at the Sexual Health Clinic in the Victoria Health Centre is can now be 'truly anonymous' (you do not have to reveal your name to them). The clinic assigns samples immediately with a number, without any personal identification from the client required.

Although anonymous testing is also available in Halifax, in the long run, it is best that New Brunswickers are encouraged to get tested within the province so that accurate statistics of those having tested, with either negative or positive results can be compiled.

At the Fredericton Sexual Health Clinic they need to know that you have not had unprotected sex within the last 13 weeks for an accurate result of your HIV status. The processing of the samples takes up to 3 weeks, though is usually less than this. Pre-testing counselling is given.

On campus testing is feasible at the Student Health Centre, but your student I.D. number is used as an identification for the sample, i.e. it is not truly anonymous. Pre-testing counselling is also less thorough due to time constraints at the busy centre.

For further unbiased advice call AIDS New Brunswick or the Sexual Health Clinic, at the numbers listed on this page.
