First of all, I'd like to say that you should see this film, although this doesn't mean it's a good film. Like the book it was based on, Pasolini's "Salo" is disturbing and offensive. I don't have a problem with this, but he forgot one thing : he also had to keep it interesting. In the first half hour, you're really disturbed ,but when you get used to all the abuse and torture ( which you eventually do) it starts to get boring. The film is a free adaption of the book. Pasolini took the basic story, but he changed a few things, eg. the location. Everything is set in the fascistic republic of Salo, during the reign of Mussolini. It's a shame this was Pasolini's last work. He was murdered shortly after the movie was completed. IMO, he was a great artist (I know some won't agree...) and it's a pity that a lot of people only know him from "Salo"... just an opinion; Moloko
