Subject: Callas as Medea From: "P Lapinski" <plapinski@amherst.edu> Date: 1996/07/19 Message-ID: <01bb75c7.23409f80$010200c0@abby.amherst.edu> Newsgroups: rec.music.opera [More Headers] [Subscribe to rec.music.opera] -- -- Just saw Callas in Pasolini's Medea--it is absolutely amazing how this woman could convey a thousand different changing emotions just with the flick of an eyebrow, a turn of the head. All this in addition to her dazzling mastery of vocal technique. It is absolutely tragic that none of her complete performances of an operatic role have been captured on video for those of us who never got to see her live.Watching her as Medea you can sense the incredible forces within this soprano which drove her to invest her operatic performances with flashes of insight, tragic grandeur and tenderness, grace, and meaning. She was truly unique. --Pia
