DINA CARROLL – "Livin' For The Weekend"
(Dance Music Authority Volume 7 Issue 2, February 1999. Copyright: Dance Music Authority, Incorporated.)

Hot on the heels of Karen Remirez's "If We Try" where the Red Jerry Vocal Dub just blows up and Silk's Anthem "smooves" comes this one. What a fine follow-up to the excellent "Run To You" this double-pack is, with the Canny Vocal and Fire Island Nu Dayz Of Disco on the first slab and the Canny Dub, Dayzed On Salinas and Roachin Da Bassbin on the second. The Canny Vocal is wibbly synthed and stringful with Dina-for-days and it'll drive you straight through the roof with additional rhythmatics and orchestrations in the right places. The Fire Island is deeper with a piano topping and a bouncier feel. It's got the mandatory strings but its drops make it a more dramatic mix. We're given a stringy shorty with a cool drop and lotsa voxe in the Canny Vocal Edit while the Dayzed On Salinas is a piano'n'kick dub with Dina's "Uh-huh" looped on top. My fave is the Roachin Da Bassbin with its wobbly bassline, keyed'n'voked (Dina's "Energy" loops are used for this) and string fill. The second half of this gets quite rough.

132, 128, 132, ? & 128 bpm.

3½ out of 4.
