Located on the North Shore of New Brunswick, the large town of Campbellton is the home to the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corp #55 Restigouche. Over the last few years, the corps has had numbers of cadets ranging from twenty-some to fifty-some cadets. Overall, the corps has done exceptionally well and conitnues to be an excellent organization for youth between the ages of 12 and 18. In fact, #55 Restigouche placed the fourth best cadet corps in ALL OF CANADA a few years back. The corps has been active in all sorts of trips for many causes, including the most recent involvement of the present chief of the corps, CPO1 Rachel McLellan, who went to France this past spring to participate in the remembrance of the World Wars, which aired on regional news and local radio stations. The corps has also participated in the New Brunswick Naval Tattoo, presenting a drill display with #275 Chaleur (Bathurst, New Brunswick) that was rewarded with a standing ovation in the sold out St. John, New Brunswick arena. As a member of the Restigouche corps, I had the opportunity to travel to the Canadian Arctic aboard the C.C.G.S. DesGroseillers, an icebreaker. I will soon post pictures of my 9 week training aboard the magnificent ship. Check regularly! |
