Purpose of the Annual Inspection

During the training year, the cadets receive instruction on many subjects such as drill, knots, ropework, sailing, first aid, seamanship, rank structure, physical fitness, citizenship, small arms safety, etc. The training program is comprehensive and is laid down by the Department of National Defence and the Navy League of Canada.
The cadets also get the chance to take part in inter-corps competition, such as sailing, volleyball and other various sports, shooting, drill, band (music), and sports tabloids. This most often involves trips to other corps headquarters. They also travel to other corps headquarters receive training in the above-mentioned subjects. The cadets participate in local parades and help local services, and operate fund raising drives as part of their citizenship training.
Opportunities are given for summer camps which can be found all across Canada, including Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia. The camps include General Training, Sailing I II and III, Music I II and III, Boatwsain I II and III, Gunnery I II and III,  specialty courses, including Lifeguard, Cookery, Marine Engineering, Medical Assistant, etc. Ample opportunities are also provided for exceptional cadets to participate in exchanges all around the world. Senior hand cadets may also apply for employment at a summer camp.
All this training, if not brought to light, would go unnoticed by parents, relatives, friends, peers, etc. Thus, the Annual Inspection gives the cadets the chance to invite all these people  to come and see what they have learned, the new skills they have acquired, and the pride they take in belonging to one of Canada's best youth organizations which permits them to develop character, self-confidence, self-discipline, and meet new friends with the same qualities.
The Annual Inspection is a time for the cadets. The officers and staff are only there to help with the organization and to give guidance if needed. Cadets are in the spotlight, and the Annual Inspection is their turn to shine.
