Hi there! Thanks for checking in. My partner, Alejandro Amezcua, and I live in Syracuse, N.Y., where he is a Ph.D. candidate at the Maxwell School of Citizenship at Syracuse University. We moved here in June 2004. I work for Syracuse University as Assistant Dean for Advancement for the Libraries and the Syracuse University Press.
Our latest news is that our wedding date is set: Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Hendricks Chapel on the campus of Syracuse University. Our pastor, Kelly Sprinkle, will officiate. We became engaged in December 2006 in Vienna, Austria, during a surprise trip for Alejandro's 30th birthday.
Before moving to Syracuse, we lived in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, where
I worked full-time at PBS's headquarters in Northern Virginia. I worked primarily with stations that use Team Approach fund raising database software. Alejandro worked for the National Council of Nonprofit Organizations. We met in 1999 when Alejandro was a Jane Addams Fellow at the IU Center on Philanthropy.
We spend much of our time with wonderful friends and family, traveling, eating, playing tourist, and attending theatre, symphony, drama, vocal, and dance performances.
In Washington, I served on the board of the Woodley Ensemble, a professional a cappella vocal ensemble. Alejandro is on the boards of Grassroots International and the Center for Community Alternatives.
Here is a photo of us, taken in March 2006 during a Spring Break trip to Japan on Asiana airlines.
In May 2000, I graduated from the Master of Arts in Philanthropic Studies program at Indiana University, taught through the Center on Philanthropy at IUPUI (the joint downtown Indianapolis campus of IU and Purdue University).
I'm also a 1992 graduate of Bucknell University where I studied English and computer science. All my work experience during college was in television broadcasting (at WTNH-TV 8 in New Haven and WYOU-TV 22 in Scranton). My updated résumé requires Adobe Acrobat to view. (To get the latest version of the free Adobe Acrobat reader, click here.)
Alejandro attended boarding school at the Milton Academy outside Boston and earned his B.A. in anthropology and comparative studies in race and ethnicity at Leland Stanford Junior University. He worked previously as a program assistant at the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
Until December 1998, I was Manager of Major Gifts at WFYI, the Indianapolis PBS and NPR stations. After WFYI, I worked for myself for 18 months as a consultant to nonprofit organizations. One of my clients was the Central Indiana Community Foundation, where I coordinated a statewide arts grant-making process. Another client was Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity where I did freelance writing and graphic design work.
Years ago, I sang with the Indianapolis Men's Chorus, a member of GALA Choruses International. Now I sing with the Oratorio Society of Syracuse. I hail from the New York City area (in Wilton,
Connecticut actually) and travel frequently, both for work and to visit friends around the world. My parents now live in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. Alejandro was born in Orange County, California, and grew up in Santa Ana, just south of Los Angeles.
