BLACK ON BLACK AND WHITE
"Hello Robert... You should know better than to be with that tacky white man. You let down the black community. I am so disgusted at that silly queen I saw you with. Can't you find a black partner, you bastard!"
Robert Taylor, 'snow queen' by choice, replies to the answering machine message above in the Miscegenation Special of the Body Politic magazine on the web.
Why all these white men? - Taylor's choice, at base one of 'raw physical desire', seems to be partly one of 'no other choice': ... as men of colour who might fit the bill are - in England - a minority within a minority that is in itself a minority, it is very likely that any future partners are going to be white.
But it's also a matter of politics: The firmly bolted door symbolised by the attitudesof racial separatists locks in as much trouble as it supposedly locks out.
The opening picture on this page is by Taylor, who has made many photographs of black and white men together.
Taylor's essay and his pictures can be reached here.
