BLACK AND WHITE FROM BENETTON
This photograph of two male hands, one black, one white, belongs to a campaign for equality between black and white, one of the many ad campaigns of United Colors of Benetton. Like other Benetton campaigns, the Black and white campaign aroused fervent debate. Proponents argued that equality goes beyond kneejerk reactions and conventional perceptions, opponents argued that stereotype roles were being perpetuated.
The whole collection of Benetton's photographs (excepted the most recent ones) can be viewed at Benetton's site on the web. A index lists all the photos from A to Z. The picture below gives you a first impression of 'black and white' photographs that have been brought together there.
All photographs are from Italian fashion photographer Oliviero Toscani.
