12:45am Sunday 8th August 1999

Ah, what a nice day and night. Just a quick recap. Woke up at ~ 10:00 am and puttered around. I was having breakfast and reading some stuff on young TG's on the net. It was quite inspiring, so I felt really invigorated and ready to take on the world. It was bright and sunny so it was the first short's day in quite a while. I went to the lab for a bit around 11:00 am and decided to cycle into Civic to enjoy the early weekend ambience. It was nice just going around, listening to CD's at a few music shops and buying the Weekly World News; apparently Elvis is alive it seems.
Got home about 2:30 pm and got a whole series of phone calls. Soba called to say that she couldn't get a bus which will stop in Canberra, so I won't get a chance to see her unfortunately. Apparently she bumped into Frog who was working as a booking clerk for the bus company, small world it seems. I also got an email from Sarah apologizing too. Nikki called to ask if she could come around so I said sure. While she was getting here Red called to ask if I was coming out to dinner with Michelle and Penny. Of course I said yes and got all the details.
Chatted with Nikki till about 5:00 pm and then she had to go. It was nice to see her again. I was half asleep when she got there so I was half groggy for a fair while.
After that I had a bit to eat, had a shower and got ready to go out. I was feeling a bit ambivalent at the time, so I went with the mole-skins and football jersey. Thankfully this was a reasonably "daggy" occasion ;) so it was fine. I was waiting at the roundabout for a fair while, but Red and Penny were running late and I didn't meet Red till 7:50 pm whilst Penny was still looking for a park. We met Michelle outside the restaurant (Café Chaos) and went in. We seemed to get a really vague waitress who kept getting our orders wrong but that was funny and we chatted for ages. We didn't leave until 10:30 pm. It was a really good time. Penny and I conflicted on Elle vs. Claudia and we agreed that one of the patrons was "absolutely not a KGB agent" ;). We had to fight to stop Penny stealing the water jug too. We decided to go back to my place at Johns to look at the my photos from Penny's place. I was going to put my bike in the boot of Penny's car, but there was no way it was going to fit, so I cycled home and met them there. I guess we chatted for ~ 2 hours, but Red was feeling very tired and eventually she had to go home. Penny loved reading the gruesome WWN stories, and Michelle and I chatted away. All in all, a very, very pleasant night. :)
