Hours passing without number, deprived I lay here without slumber…
I think I can thank Poe and "The Raven" for that little introduction, well here we are, St Patrick's day, maybe I should go out and look for leprechauns? Lord knows I sure could do with a pot of gold. I found out today that I have to pay $215 for the conference accommodation out of my own pocket and then claim it back from the Uni. That will take forever and really suck. Thankfully tomorrow is payday as I'm currently totally broke.
I want to try and get OMNO 18 out of the way tomorrow as well as it's taking far too long to fix the mistakes. I have to run two KBr discs and I get the Ortep plots into a suitable viewing scheme. Unfortunately this latter on means that I have to rely on someone to put the software onto the new PC which means a wait of indeterminate time.
I got an email from Michelle today, she is a young (~18 years old) Canberra grrl who is beginning to transition. Nikki and Szusza have mentioned her name previously, but I haven't actually chatted with her yet. Hopefully we will do that sometime soon.
Training for IB continues, last night I went for a run to Parliament House and back and not counting the rest period at the top, it took just under 50 minutes which is good.
I got an email from my brother who is currently in Rio with his girlfriend. He seems to be having a good time over there.
There were a whole bunch of maintenance people looking at my fume-hood today discussing the possibility of fixing it. I guess I'll believe that one when I see it. Thankfully I don't have to use it until I get these papers out of the way.
I've had a real pain in the back recently, just between the shoulder blades. I think it's a combination of my new running scheme and sitting at the computer hunched over for long periods of time. A massage would be really great, but I sure as hell aren't expecting to get one.
OK, I think my plan is this. I will give my supervisor the updated OMNO 18 on Friday with whatever changes I have been able to make. Tomorrow I will email Marek about Z-scan and do the two KBr discs I need to get done. I also have to chat with the NMR center about running that 1-D Noesy. I don't actually have to do it, just ask them about running it for me. Also, if I get a chance I will set up the reduction experiment also since it takes ~5 hours. Thursday will be Z-scan for the remaining compounds.
How badly could I not sleep last night! As I lay in bed awake for about 3 hours, I memorized the value of pi to 15 places. The mnemonic which I used was "How I like a drink, alcoholic of course after the heavy lectures involving quantum mechanics." Where each word has the same number of letters, and hence the value is 3.14159265358979. This is a value good enough to calculate the circumference of the earth to a few microns, but it just goes to show you how bored I can get trying to get to sleep. Speaking of which, it's now 1:45 am and I'm not yet tired.
