The littlest things.

Me, looking mildly cute OK, I'm at work, and it's been pretty busy. I still don't have my damn mail-box key which is really starting to piss me off. I sent a money order to the power company, and I did it fairly rushed but I'm praying that it will go through. The last thing I need is my electricity cut off over Xmas. I also organized to attend an orientation workshop in early January, put on a reaction and send off some details to the payroll office.
Xmas is rapidly bearing down on me, I know there's lots of things I have to do, but it's still fairly chaotic over here at the moment. I've gotten emails from both Peta's, Tim, Marron and others who I have to respond to. The humidity is a real killer, it makes my hair disgusting and really sucks the life out of you. I was chatting to Red on ICQ, and she said “Its like America's like Australia upside down, and you're living in Darwin” not a good thought.

What a difference a day makes.

Well, I still don't have my key yet, but things look a lot brighter than they did yesterday. I went home about 1 pm in the hope of catching the mail-man, but first I went and saw the old lady who is sort of in charge of our block. After explaining to her the situation, she lent me her key for just a few minutes which was enough for me to run down and finally open my mail-box. After returning the key, I went through the +3 weeks worth of mail, and finally laid hands on my social security card. With that in hand, I cycled back to the lab, and gave copies to my boss and the Human Resources manager. I also went down to the University credit Union and opened a checking account. Oh freedom! That was a really big relief, especially since the power company called me that night to find out what the deal was with my deposit. I explained the situation, and how I had posted off the money order this morning, and hopefully that should clear in the next day or two.
Work didn't really slow down around me however, so today I have to make up for it. I've got one reaction in the fridge, so I'm typing this up while waiting for it to chill. This afternoon, I'll apply for my staff card and then do some electrochemistry. I tried calling Allison last night to apologize for being a bit short-tempered on Monday night, but haven't been able to get through yet.

I also rejoined the Antijen-Adult list after almost a full year away. Noisy, ignorant trolls drove me away the first time, and although the names have changed, they're still there. Still, it helps me feel less isolated. Illara posted some pictures from her time in Miami, and there is one of me which I actually quite like.
