6:30 pm - Friday 15th March 2002

The long good Friday.

Well, as usual it's been a long and busy week, my boss flew out on Thursday to present a talk at another University, so he wasn't in today. During our regular meeting on Wednesday he had a few unpleasant things to say, which I felt was a bit unfair especially considering all the long hours I've been putting in. As it is, I can look forward to a nice luxurious break from the lab, because on Thursday I booked my airplane ticket home. The rough itinerary is as follows...

Leave Miami 7 am 14th April- Arrive San Francisco 10 am.
Leave San Francisco 11 pm 14th - Arrive Sydney 6:15 am 16th April.
Attend Graduation etc.
Leave Sydney 2 pm 25th April - Arrive LA 11am 25th.
Leave LA 2 pm 30th April - Arrive Miami - 10 pm.

So there you have it, if you're reading this and live in Australia, now's the time to start thinking about meeting me for coffee. ;) The ticket cost (for me) an ungodly amount of money, and so despite being very frugal, I am now broke again. The 5 day layover is a chance for me to spend with my sweetheart which we are both longing for, and on another happy note, she will be coming to visit me in Miami for the 4th July long weekend. :) Yay! Say YES to girlfriends. *happy dance* ^_^

9:25 am - Saturday 16th March 2002

Even if I can't watch Saturday morning cartoons, I can at least to them on the radio. :)

Today there is a "Family Picnic Day" at the Uni, which I'll have a look at, but I didn't remember it in time to get a ticket. I know that I really need to get some exercise, so I might roller-blade in.

10:05 am - I knew it was a good morning as I danced about in the shower to the theme from "Wonder Woman", but imagine my pleasure when they followed that up with the original Japanese theme from "Star Blazers" (aka Space Battlecruiser Yamato). ^_^

12:35 pm - If it were possible to die from sweating too much, I'd be a candidate. I 'bladed over to the lab and back to check my email and make sure everything was under control, as I went past, the "Family Picnic" was starting to warm up and it really was quite a nice day. I'm getting better at 'blading which is good, especially considering that I usually only get a chance to use them on weekends.

5:45 pm - Yay! I just finished filling out my tax forms, and I'll get it all back! *happy dance* With my itinerary, I have a nice long lay-over in San Francisco (13 hours), and one of the people from the Antijen-Adult list has agreed to show me around which will be cool, since they (she and her girlfriend) have a car and know the downtown area, and so they can show me all the touristy attractions. :)

10:20 pm - Back at home after wandering around the mall. I was reading in the comic section of the bookstore, when 2 girls walked past, they were seriously "gothed up" even though neither of them could have been older than 16. It was kind of fun watching them, one was carrying a "Hot Topic" bag, which is where I presumed they found most of their clothing. Even more incongruous was the fact that they were with one of their mothers, I found it very cute, and because of that I deliberately dropped by the Hot Topic store. I found some nice clothes though they are a little impractical, still my gothic leanings are more for fun than a lifestyle choice. As it is, living in Miami I don't need to worry about it.

8 pm - Sunday 17th March 2002

Pleasing the boss means being seen working at the lab on a Sunday night.

It's been a usual Sunday, I bladed over to the lab in the morning, and finally the intricate secret of how to properly blade came to me. :) It's so much simpler now, and a lot faster too, though the tiled floors aren't much fun. I came back and after drying off the buckets of sweat, chatted to Allison as she was beginning her day. Then it was the usual tasks of cleaning, laundry and so on.

10:35 pm - Burning big chunks of your own hair is never a good thing. Still, my hair is a lot less skungy now then it was after two long sweaty days of rollerblading. I called home earlier to wish Mum a happy birthday, and it was nice to chat to her and Dad, it will be wonderful to get home again. I sent out a few emails, though there wasn't all that much to tell people... life is good though mundane
