Today was the great insurance hunt.

I woke up late because of the change over in daylight savings, and after slowly coming to my senses (as usual), I rang the guy who manages this set of apartments. Apart from telling me I had to buy insurance he wasn't a whole lot of help, so I opened the Yellow Pages at "I" and started calling numbers which said they did Rental Insurance. It was a painful experience, several places didn't do rental insurance despite advertising to the contrary, others only started insuring at $30,000 which was just ridiculous. Another was connected to a fax machine and two to people who didn't speak any English. I was also rudely treated at one place for only wanting $1500 worth of insurance. However I finally got two quotes of $256 and $233, but then one place (located just a few blocks away) called back with a correction saying that their minimum had recently jumped to $30,000, so that left me with only once choice.

It was not the most pleasant of options being at the extreme reaches of the Miami suburbs in Hialeah. I took the Metro rail almost to the end of the line and then waited and took a bus further out. A multi-block stroll under the expressway finally got me to my location. The actually details only took about 20 minutes and me forking over money which I desperately did not wish to spend. A stroll back through a construction site and a long walk out of a school zone got me back at the bus stop. The area is very Spanish, and that put me at a major disadvantage as much of the public transport was provided by "Jitney's", small shuttle vans which although once illegal now cover a lot of the slack in-between regular bus services. So, ignoring the old woman next to me who was singing to herself in Spanish, I made it back to the Metrorail station and then subsequently all the way back to University.
Total time = 3 hours 40 minutes. Ick...

I did do some work in the afternoon, but I was not in the best mood and the experiment (as always) gave an unexpected result. *sigh* My boss was away at a conference which doesn't matter one way or the other, but I'm hoping that tomorrow is a bit more relaxing.
