9:10 pm - Thursday 11th April 2002

Not long now.

And I had hoped that the drama had finished on Monday. Tuesday was fairly quiet, however on Wednesday my supervisor had arrived back from the ACS conference and wanted to see me run a reaction, which stressed me out no end. The reaction went fine, but in the tense morning preparations I miscalcuated my measuremets and although I made the new complex, I was completly embarrased in front of him. Fortunately the subsequent meeting in the afternoon passed uneventfully, though I didn't leave the lab until 7:30 pm. Today was much better, I wasn't under any stress to perform so I could take things much easier and so my experiments worked out well. Tomorrow will be my last full day and so I will be taking things very quietly and tidy things up.

7:05 pm - Friday 12th April 2002

Final prep.

At the moment I'm just waiting on the second load of laundry to finish drying, I just ate and tonight I'm taking things very easy indeed. Today was nice and quiet at work and I spent most of the time tidying and cleaning up.

7:05 pm - Saturday 13th April 2002

OK, so about 12 hours.

Today has been reasonably unexciting, I got up late (~9 am), showered and tried to do some more packing and then went over for the perfunctory visit to the lab. My boss was mildly surprised to see me, but I mentioned that I was emailing as well as checking the weather in SF and Sydney, it looks like my leather jacket may be a good option for both, as well as a handy pillow on the long night haul across the Pacific.
In the afternoon I went rollerblading and had a rather unpleasant crash. Coming off a hill which was part of a bridge I had the guard rail on one side and the road on the other and the pavement was interrupted by a patch of grass which was rapidly approaching. I tried to place one foot on the grass and "step" whilst keeping my momentum, but this was a little much at speed, and after excuting a lightning fast 360 degree turn with all the precision and agility of someone completey out of control, I landed belly up on the bitumen. Although my knee and wrist guards absorbed most of the fall, I grazed my elbow and was winded, self preservation fortunately prevailed and I managed to scramble to the footpath before becoming road kill. My breasts hurt a lot, and this is even with lots of padding between them and the road, I certainly wouldn't want to repeat that impact after surgery. After a nap and then a phone call to Allison I went down to the mall to read at the bookshop, tonight I really need to finish packing.

8:40 pm - *Glee* I just realized something! I'm carrying samples for my boss to Australia, and while I'm there I'm going to be having discussions with my old supervisor, you know what this all adds up to? Tax deduction! Yay, all $1400 US dollars worth. :)
