So, it's a steamy, hot afternoon in Miami and I'm hiding out in the dark of my apartment waiting for it to cool off somewhat. Things are pretty much the same as I left them, experiments to be done, bills to be paid and the inevitable cleaning. The last few days were spent with my honey in LA. At my request we didn't do very much, after running the social rounds in Australia I just wanted to spent some quiet time with her. The trip from Canberra to Los Angeles was tolerable, as much as a 13 hour trip can be expected to be. I spent the next few days trying to recover from the jet-lag and enjoying the occasional expedition into the wilds of Venice Beach and the like.
On Tuesday afternoon I had to leave my tear-swept love and climb aboard the plane that would return me here. The next date of note on my agenda will be the 27th June when I am reunited with her, and then July 1st when I give myself over to the surgeons hands.
It hasn't yet been a week since I returned, but things are falling back into their usual routine. The days are long and hot and I spend them mostly in the relative comfort of the laboratory. My research is mostly back up to speed which gives me something to concentrate on. This weekend has mainly been spent at home reading "The History of Mathematics" which has enough equations to give good understanding of how Euler lost an eye. I have a day of training on Thursday on "Sexual Harassment" and "Diversity Training" part of my attempts to expand my resume to cover business related non-scientific areas. Tonight was a big cook-off as I discovered how not make bread in the oven. I don't think it is poisonous, but it make be a bit much on the teeth.
