A long day by the feel of it.

It's getting hot again down here in Miami, definitely not as bad as when I first arrived, but gradually creeping up. The heat is sucking at me like some sort of omnipresent vampire, the only relief being (annoyingly) the air-conditioning at the laboratory. Worst is of course yet to come with August being described as the month were stepping outside makes you feel like you just took a shower.

7:50 am - Friday 10th May 2002

No news is well, no news.

Yep, it's been quiet. I cancelled on yesterday's workshops after some agonizing, after Wednesday's meeting I figured I needed as much time at work as possible. Also on Wednesday was lunch with Barbara-Anne which was nice, she congratulated me on my doctorate by shouting me. I haven't yet caught up with anyone else yet, but will try this weekend. At work at the moment, I'm taken extreme care to make things go right, but sometimes even then experiments only partially work, I have to get my results into proper order to form the basis of a new paper.

9:05 am - Saturday 11th May 2002

You bring the problem, I'll provide the solution.

Well, it's the weekend. It's not all that much different to the week, but at least I don't have to be in at work before 9 am. Today I need to ring Allison as last night on the phone we had an argument, I'm sure we both thought we were right, but I'll do the apologizing anyway, it's hard not to when the other person starts crying.

7 pm - Anyone who says in their diary that their life is one non-stop series of fun is what we would call an "unreliable narrator".

OK, library book check time...

"The Ascent of Science" Brian Silver
"The History of Maths" David Burton
"Frege - A Critical Study" Joan Weiner
"The Land of Oz" Frank L. Baum
"Cryptonomicom" Neil Stephenson

This might explain why I don't have a television. "The Land of Oz" was a real treat which like many library books I found as if by accident. For those who aren't aware it is a short book about the adventures of Tip, a young boy, who is eventually found to be the magically transformed young Princess Ozma, heir to the throne of Oz.
The first and last books listed I actually bought in Australia for the trip back, I have only bought one or two books here in Miami, preferring to close my eyes and let my mind drift to a topic which interests me and then getting out a slew of books on the subject. Because it's a University library I therefore tend to mostly read non-fiction.
I called Allison this afternoon and we talked for a long time which was good, we mutually apologized for the tiff yesterday, it's be so much easier to interpret each others mood if we actually lived together, but that's something we have to work towards in the future.

This evening will be spent at the lab, not exactly thrill-a-minute stuff, but I have data to type in and the computer will be free.
