Last Friday was rather hectic. That morning Barbara-Anne had come around to finalize things for her surgery that afternoon. We chatted, and I made sure I had all her emergency numbers and so forth. I ended up running late and didn't get to the surgery until about 5:30 pm by which time she had been out of surgery for a while. She was really knocked out by the anesthetic, so we bundled her into a taxi and off to the hotel just down from my place.
She slept for several hours and woke up still very dazed, I guess I can thank my young metabolism for clearing out the anesthesia much faster. I stayed with her, and then about 4 am she woke up and wanted to go to Denny's. I didn't want her to drive but she did anyway. We talked for an hour over greasy food and then I left her to get some more sleep. I think she's a nice person but like many CD's she is very rough around the edges.
The next day we went to her follow-up appointment which was quick and she dropped me off home and she drove back to her place up north. My body clock was rather disrupted and so I spent most of the day in bed.
Sunday I woke up early and decided to take the long journey out to Miami Beach. As I knew from previous experience, this trip includes bicycle, Metrorail, Bus and walking components and takes approximately 1 1/2 hours. But make it I did, shooting footage of Washington Mall, Collins Avenue and finally Miami Beach in all it's crowded and rather unimpressive glory. By the time I arrived it was 11 am and I only stayed for about 1 1/2 hours. The sun was particularly fierce and I was tired from walking and somewhat dehydrated, nevertheless I had video footage which will eventually be sent home to my parents. I arrived home about 2 pm rather out of sorts and spent the next few hours recuperating. The rest of Sunday was thankfully uneventful.
Today it was rather quiet in the lab but I was operating without certain essential chemicals and equipment I needed was being unfairly monopolized by one person. I know that having been away for a week that the boss will be expecting a whole lot of work.
