Well, it's been an ok last few days. Thursday and Friday were spent investigating some oxidation reactions in the laboratory, and as I left work on Friday afternoon, Avi called and said we were going to play Call of Cthulhu that night. I said that it was fine by me and went home to shower and change, he picked me up about 6:30 pm, but other people were running late and after getting some Chinese food for dinner we finally kicked off around 10 pm. We had a fun time, and the adventure is building to a climax, although we finished around 2 am, and so I didn't get home until almost 3 am.
The next day Anthony and Jill were moving into their new house, I asked Ivan to drive me up, but we didn't get there until about 4 pm and so I felt a little guilty as there wasn't much left to do by then. I polished some cabinets and talked with Almie (a friend of the family) on the back veranda. Ivan drove me home about 9 pm, and not long thereafter I crashed out.
Today has been fairly uneventful, I woke up about 9 am, went to work briefly but was back home before midday. I was at a bit of a loss for things to do, so I called Allison and talked to her for a fair while. She was out with a friend Amelia, who we keep discovering just has more and more in common with us. A plush Cthulhu, a doctoral degree, an interest in Farscape, LARPs and role-playing, not to mention the whole TS thing. It's quite amusing.
This afternoon I went back to the lab but didn't do very much at all. I stopped by the "grocery" on the way home, but ended up buying much more than I originally intended. It's all food, so it's not like I was wasting my money I'm just more used to buying small amounts of groceries at a time.
I'm tired, the heat has returned and it's not doing me much good, there are just slight hints of autumn in the air and yet it's almost November.
Allison forwarded me a link to the web-site of Caitlin R. Kiernan, a Goth writer of some renown in niche markets such as those more commonly associated with perhaps Poppy Z. Brite (I don't know whether you need to state your middle initial to be a good Goth writer, but I guess it can't hurt). Of interest was her recent attendance at a "Save Farscape" party where she came as the alien Chiana, a member of the Nebari race. Although I have not watched more than a single episode of Farscape it was easy to see why the Nebari are a favourite of Goths worldwide. Her costume was really quite amazing, but I suppose having professional air-brushed makeup always helps.
This of course brought me full circle back to my own gothic leanings and the question of if (or ever) I desire to explore that particular genre. While the music and the clothes interest me as much as they ever did, equally so my distaste for pretension and haughtiness disinterests me. At the moment however the entire question is somewhat moot, I cycle to work and I live in Miami, two factors involving perspiration which detract from any possibility of me dressing more stylishly or incorporating any additional black into my wardrobe. When I move to whatever distant place, then perhaps I hope to experiment as is the whim of a 20-something person, until then however I shall remain as faithfully bland as I ever was.
