Well, after about 18 months I actually can go back to writing my diary entries on my own computer. I've been fairly slack about updating my diary because of the difficulties in transferring the files and getting them onto the internet. Hopefully now I can cut back on the number of typo's and get them posted sooner. After the difficulties of the last few months I really wonder if anyone check my diary anymore.
Anyway, it's Friday evening so I'm at home feeling a bit down. I'm having a harder time making good friends here than I did in Miami. I suppose I got lucky with finding such a cool group of guys down there, in fact doubly lucky as it was maybe the only thing which got me through. But here it's been more difficult. The people from the LARP are nice enough, but they only seem to get together for that and little else.
I enjoy hanging out with the people at work, and therein lies an interesting tale. Basically the two guys in the lab have both simultaneously found new girlfriends after significant droughts. By a twist of fate, I know both of the girls also. In my heart I'm happy for them all, I know from personal experience that there's nothing more wonderful than falling into a relationship. It does mean that we all do less stuff together as they tend to be doing “couple stuff”. I guess I feel somewhat irked by the fact that I'm deeply in love too, but I can't be with her right now and given the lesbian nature of our relationship I can't really talk about it as I might like.
Well, against all odds, my apartment is actually starting to resemble a home. Having my computer working helps a lot, plus I'm finally put the open boxes away, or at least out of sight.
It's a wonderful day outside, warm with a few clouds and a light breeze. After a much needed sleep in I showered and did battle with the hair. Then I spent some time coaxing the little motorbike to work before I rode over to a sporting goods store to get a new bag. My old bag had split the zipper, so I thought it was time for a change. On the way home I went by the lab and did my usual checking of email and so on. Not wanting to waste such a nice afternoon, I came home and got my bicycle out and cycled back to the lab. From there I changed into my sporty clothes and went for a jog around the University. That was much needed as I haven't been exercising properly since I left Miami.
I jogged around the University for a while and returned to the lab to find two of the guys in at work. I chatted for a while, went for another brief run and then came back and got changed. I'm in need of some social activity, so I'll drop by the LARP tonight. I still haven't worked on my character, but maybe I can get something done then. I very much need to work on an abstract for a conference, since the closing date is tomorrow.
