My, it's starting to get a bit longer between entries. It's mainly because I'm so flaked out by the time I get home that I usually read or surf the internet before having a shower and crashing out. The only reason tonight is any different is because my internet connection is down and I figure I'll actually do something I should be catching up on.
In all, life has been rather ordinary. In miscellaneous news, my little moped just passed 500 kilometres, air tickets from LA to Sydney return have jumped back up to ~$900 and I'll soon be receiving my first real credit card. To boost my non-existent credit, I tried to apply to my bank for a secured credit card, one where you fork up a deposit to get a credit history started. It turns out, that this would have been for a 2 year minimum, so after some negotiation, they gave me a regular credit card, presumably to keep me as a customer. Either way, it's a good thing for me to have on hand.
Well, want an interesting development… I was interrupted in the middle of my last diary entry by a phone call from my Mum in Australia. We exchanged our bits and pieces of news and then casually mentioned “Oh yes, your brothers girlfriend is pregnant”. Woah! Now I admit that this isn't completely unexpected, I mean of the three kids, my middle brother is the only one I can see breeding. Still, I was in a state of shock for a little while, and then I guess I was happy that I'd be an aunt. I haven't seen my brother C. since Xmas of 2000. Xmas is the only time our whole family gets together, so it'll be 3 years come this Xmas. He hasn't seen me since I changed radically though…
The past week has been quite hectic, I've been working flat-out and trying to get things organized. We have a meeting Monday to plan for the visit of a guy from the NSF on Friday. Of course there's the conference talk which I now have a date for (Friday 13th June) but no real talk yet. To de-stress I decided to go and see the Matrix sequel, however on Friday evening, it was completely sold out. After spending this morning working at the lab, I rode my motorbike over to see if I could get in. I was just in time to catch the 4:30 pm session as it started.
My thoughts? I though it was very cool… I know it'll be easy to mock it, because well, it's only a movie and it has an even tougher act to follow because it's a sequel to a very successful first film. Nevertheless, I liked the action scenes, Karrie Anne-Moss in black PVC being a complete mind-warping fetish fantasy. It is only the second film in a trilogy, so I'm quite happy with the cliff-hanging ending, I stayed for the credits because of the cool music and was pleasantly surprised by the presence of the trailer for the final instalment right at the end.
I might consider looking forward to Terminator 3 a guilty pleasure if I thought there was any guilt to feel. Action films pay the bills for a lot of little people, so I'm not going to be all sanctimonious/pretentious and call people “sell-outs” for making money. Last time I checked most people needed money.
