After all the travel and touring of last weekend, I'm happy that this one is a great deal calmer. The lab has been very quiet this week with Bernie closeted away working on his thesis and my boss in Washington. The high school teacher left Thursday to go to a wedding and won't be back until Tuesday, so it was very quiet and also very hot. My motivation has never been greatest when the temperature gets up above 30 C (or ~90 F), so I had a hard time getting much done. I spent some time over in the Physics building talking with our collaborators over there and trying to interpret their preliminary results without much luck.
Tiffany and Brandon left for Oz-Fest in Seattle on Friday, so things have been quiet on the social front, but that's not bad since I had a lot of domestic stuff to catch up on. I slept in late Saturday morning and after a quick trip to the *.-Mart to get some new shorts, I dropped by the lab. I wasn't feeling particularly motivated to do any work, so instead I cycled over to the nearby theatre complex to catch “Terminator 3”. I had been preparing myself for a long time to be disappointed by it, but happily I actually liked it a lot. The ending had a lot to do with my appreciation, but hey no spoilers here. After that I came home for a nap, not that I'd done anything particularly vigorous, but the warm weather was making me rather sleepy. The Residential Housing was putting on a free BBQ behind my building, so I went there and ate too much greasy food. I felt really icky after that, and after letting it digest I went for an hour long jog which left we sweaty and tired, but feeling a lot less nauseous. I lay around reading “The Code Breakers” by David Kahn for most of the evening.
9:30 pm – Another day gone by, and it was a lazy Sunday indeed. I woke up around 9 am and bummed around cleaning house for a long time, about midday I decided to go for a bike ride to get me out of the house and to enjoy the warm day. I rode around the campus and then through some of the in-town trails before cycling over the hill to the hospital, then leisurely making my way back up the main street and thence back to home via the grocery store. I arrived home about 1 pm and took a nice long shower before more lazing around in bed. More reading and napping followed and eventually about 5 pm I went over to work since my apartment was a tad too warm.
I'm still trying to come up with practical uses of my materials, but I haven't had a lot of luck. I bought a Teflon rod on Ebay which might come in handy later on, but for the moment I'll stick with trying to get these physicists to come up with some interpretable results. I came home about 8 pm where I talked with Allison for a fair while, and although I was thinking of going to see “Finding Nemo”, I got the times wrong, so I'm in for the evening.
