Ugh, today was not a great deal of fun exactly. Nothing bad really happened, but I just couldn't get motivated at work, and I couldn't come up with any useful ideas to keep me occupied. It seems that the well is momentarily dry.
The weekend on the other hand was a lot more fun. Saturday around midday Tiffany came around and we hung out here and I cooked pancakes for a late breakfast. We just hung out for most of the day, being very lazy and corpulent, always a good thing. We dropped via the lab where I had to check on some reactions and got rained on as we walked back over to her place. Tanya called and we organized to do dinner after 7 pm, and so I left Tiffany to get changed and headed back home. Tanya and Brandon were running late, but that was no problem, and we ended up going over to Appleby's for dinner. It's just another sit-down chain restaurant, but the food was ok. I limited myself to chicken pasta, and after that we went via K-Mart and then to Hastings, a combination book, music and movie store. Brandon wanted to see “Trainspotting”, but it was out, and I didn't want to inflict my desire to see some Anime on anyone. We actually spent a good part of an hour hanging out in the bookshop section of the shop, which I much preferred to do, but in the end we got two DVD's, neither of which I picked.
The first DVD's was “The Ted Bundy Story”, a rather grisly re-enactment of his spree of murders in the late 1970's and early 80's. The other video, which Brandon found, was on the new release section and was simply called “Goth”, and it deserves a special mention. When we got home, we watched “Goth” first, and without much of a doubt it was possibly the worse movie I've ever seen. I would quite easily rate “Plan 9 from Outer Space” much higher on any list, at least Ed Wood could hold the camera steady. The acting was awful, the cinematography abysmal, the story line barely interesting if at all and in fact the movie had no visibly redeeming features at all. It was shot on digital video (DV), and somehow the producers had gotten a distribution deal from the simple fact that there were copies of it on the shelf at Hastings. Not being Goth, nor personally knowing anyone who is, I won't feign to speak for the Goth community, except to say that I feel even the most forgiving Goth would cringe at the portrayal of their sub-culture.
After that we watched “The Ted Bundy Story” which was also unpleasant, but for different reasons. I think Brandon ended up dropping us off home about 3 pm.
Sunday as you might be aware is the day of rest, and we quite comprehensively rested. I crawled out of bed around 2 pm for a shower and to get dressed. Neither Tiffany nor I was particularly motivated to do much of anything, but around 4 pm, we decided to go for a bike ride. I had a spare bike, which was given to me when I first arrived in Montana, but imagine my surprise when I went to check on it to find it gone! Theft usually isn't a problem in this part of the country, but this is a college town, and so I guess it was inevitable. I had in fact unlocked it earlier in the week to check the tires and had neglected to lock it back up again. This put an initial damper on our attempt to go cycling, but I have my roller blades and haven't used them in several months, and so this seemed like a good time to put back into use. Tiffany took my bike, and it was the first time she'd ridden one since she was in Junior High. She's had a lot of problems with her leg when she was growing up, too many surgeries and pieces of metal sticking out of her leg at uncomfortable angles. That's all corrected now, and as the old adage says, “it's just like riding a bike” happily proved literally correct. I was surprised that I was still fairly nimble on the roller blades, or at least I didn't have any catastrophic accidents. We bladed and cycled the 2 miles over to Tanya's place where I arrived in a very sweaty condition, blading being more physically demanding than cycling. We hung out there for a few hours, Tanya had to go off to baby sit, and Brandon was in his room on the Internet. After we had pizza for dinner, we tried to encourage him to come out with us, but alas to no avail. Instead we took advantage of the cool afternoon to go for a long trek. We made our way along the footpaths where we could, blading being much more susceptible to sand, gravel and other obstacles on the roadside. It was good fun, and I kept up with Tiffany as best I could, she was definitely enjoying herself and we saw a lot of the town which you usually just speed past in the traffic. We were out for an hour and my shins were hurting rather badly, I had neglected to wear high, thick socks and so they were taking the brunt of the impact due to the design of my particular pair of blades. We made it back to Tanya's place eventually although she wasn't back yet. Brandon was in a better mood and Tiffany and I walked back up to the University as the sun was setting, I literally couldn't blade another inch until I'd had a very long break.
Oh I just realized that my diary celebrated its 5th birthday earlier this month. It's hard to keep updating these days, but once I actually sit down, then it's much easier to get back into the groove.
