This appeared in the local paper this morning.
According to University officials, two male students were allegedly sexually assaulted by another male student early Saturday in their rooms in an upperclassmen residence hall.
According to police, the alleged assailant "went into the first room, and assaulted a male and the male yelled at him and screamed at him to get out. And that male went to the front desk." "By the time police had come, he had been in three other rooms. Two rooms had people in there who said 'get out of here' and he did ... It was the last room in which he found the other student," and allegedly assaulted him, Conover said.
University employees were concerned about public reactions to allegations that the assaults were enacted by a male on other males. Amy Thomas, an associate professor of English who is active in lesbian and gay rights issues said, "This is going to play into stereotypes of gay people as predators."
This incident happened in the same dormitory wing which Doug and Tiffany live in, in fact right on Doug's floor not long after he got back late Friday. Tonight at the local queer group meeting it was discussed, along with the possible ramifications for our first Queer dance of the semester this Saturday. Whether this guy was gay or not, it's really horrible press for gay people living in a small country town.
Yes, the second of approximately two queer orientated dances held by in town is coming up and I've volunteered to work the front desk for some of the night. I did it last time and had a lot of fun, so I'm hoping for a repeat, although I'll definitely try and do some more dancing this time.
Work was ok today I had my hands full with undergraduates who needed supervision, but at least some things got done.
