In late February is my SRS appointment (now paid for) in Thailand. Then while I will be recuperating, I'll celebrate my 30th birthday. I'm not sure what to think about that. I still haven't received any interview requests, so maybe I won't have to worry about that in January. My current grant is good through until October 1, and after that things get a little more uncertain. My bosses want to keep me on which is cool but it's also a matter of finding the money.
Spending Xmas and the New Year with Bonnie has been nice. Last night we travelled into the Cherry Bar in the SOMA district of downtown San Francisco and went to an 80's dance party. It was fairly fun and not outrageously expensive, and we got home about 2 am. For Xmas we spent time in bed, unwrapped presents and spent much of the afternoon walking about trying to get a reliable wireless network connection. I got down here by catching a ride with a guy who's dad is a chemistry professor at Berkeley. Sadly however his jeep guzzled the fuel and it would have been about the same price to fly down instead. The Sacramento to Reno pass is now closed, and I am seriously considering flying back instead.
Later
Well, the rest of New Year's day was nice enough. Bonnie and I were considering going to a restaurant opening, but it was a little to expensive for our tastes. Instead we wandered along Shattuck Street and spent much of the evening reading books in a big commercial book shop, interrupted by some pizza and philosophical discussions. Fortunately it didn't rain on us as we made our way home.
