The Elements.

Some people I know have extreme cases of “sour grapes”. A matter of “I can't believe you're having surgery, that's so artificial”. Of course rejecting surgery is easy if you don't have the money. The countdown clock on my desktop tells me that I have just under 12 days, not including the time difference between here and Thailand of about 15 hours. I'm not really nervous, more a feeling of “Wow, I'm going to have surgery soon”. I have a lot of stuff to get done in this last week before I fly out, since this time 7 days from now I'll be on a plane heading to Berkeley.

The past week has had it's up's and downs. My boss finally got back on Monday, and now we have a meeting with him and my other big boss scheduled for tomorrow (Monday) afternoon. I have a doctor's appointment for tomorrow morning. I wanted to “touch base” with a doctor here in town so that if there were any emergencies when I got back I could have them attended to quickly. A friend who works with women's health put me onto this doctor, and tomorrow is a reconnaissance mission (wow, I spelt reconnaissance correctly on the first attempt). I am hoping I won't be subject to “interesting, rare disease” syndrome. Anyway, last Monday was good, and I got a lot accomplished.

Tuesday a meeting was cancelled, and so that was annoyingly frustrating. Wednesday I chatted with my boss again and had another good day. I bumped into Jen and we chatted and had coffee, and I lent here a dress for the Governor's Ball which was on this weekend. Thursday I was again in a funk and in the evening I went for a long run to try and get over it. I also need to get as fit as I can before the surgery as well. Thursday night I called Judy to see how her first week was at her new job. Apart from having to get up at 6 am in the morning to get to work, she was doing ok. I presumed she knew I was trans and I mentioned my upcoming surgery, but apparently she hasn't know (or so she says). Either ay, oops!

Friday I finally received my new phone and spent most of the day organizing my service, having the number changed over and so forth. Again I didn't get too much accomplished, but I saw a very cool job down in Hayward, CA on Craigslist. I'll drop in an application on Monday I think. I don't know what my chances are, but since it's obvious I'm not going to get any faculty interviews this year, it's worth a shot.

Friday night Bonnie and I talked on the phone for 4 hours and 40 minutes, so thank heavens for unlimited nights and weekends! Yesterday she went into the city to meet up with Doug who was down in CA for job training. Myself I cycled to *-Mart and then the grocery store and spent quite a lot of money. Much of it on stuff for the upcoming trip. I dropped into an “alternate” worship service to see Pastor Joel who Bonnie knows. There was also free coffee and desserts which was a fairly good lure also. After that I went home, and after saying hello to Dan I watched “Band of Brothers” on DVD which was cool. Today I'll try to do work, finish the job application and maybe do some cleaning. Going for a jog wouldn't be such a bad idea either.
