5:30 pm – Tuesday 20th July 2005

Wind in your hair.

It has been a good day, it is so much easier to meet and talk with people when a few of them already know you. Last night was dinner (I did have that salad), and then the evening presentations ran from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. They were interesting, and then after that was the poster session. I had a few people who came and had a look at my poster, and I asked them all a few questions, including whether their department was recruiting or not. I had a beer or two, and I called Bonnie to see how her conference was going. I finally got to bed a little before 1 am.

This morning it took me forever to wake up, my neck still hurt, but it felt much better than it had on Monday. I grabbed breakfast and made it to the first presentations, sadly I did not win one of the four presentation slots. I took some notes, and the presentations were quite good. I desperately needed a drink at the coffee break, and then after that a few more talks was lunch. I called Kolter just before lunch to make sure things were ok back in the lab in Montana. Lunch was nice, and I was somewhat lost because there was so much I wanted to do. I finally took the cliff walk which has some really wonderful views of the ocean, and I walked almost all the way down to the beach. I headed back into the center of Newport and then down into the touristy part of town. I took a whim and hired myself a moped for an hour and that was a lot of fun. I headed out to Fort Adams, and then along the Ocean Drive which winds it's way along the ocean foreshore. One hour wasn't nearly enough, but I had to bring the bike back around 4 pm. After that I walked up to the University, and got back here quite sweaty. I thought that I may as well kill two birds at once, so I dilated for about half an hour. Then I went to have a wonderfully long shower.

This evening will involve dinner, followed by more talks and then the poster sessions again. I will probably go to the poster session for a little while, but I don't think I will stay too late.
