Well, I'm now on the final leg home, and Dan will pick me up from the airport about 9 pm. I have that silly exam and assignment due tomorrow, so Friday will be a nice chance to rest.
Let me tell you a little bit about Kadie. She's close to my age, although neither of us has mentioned specifics. She is a freshman in the university, and we first met at the lesbian video night back in movie night on November 4th. I'd seen her before at the Unitarian Universalist services, and we got to know each other better over the last month. Of course, I was still recovering from Bonnie telling me that she wanted to break up. But time has passed, and now we are much better friends, in fact we are trying to figure out how we will define our friendship more formally.
She has come by the lab a few times on Wednesday evening because I have been working late and she has a late lab session. Last Wednesday (November 30th) we watched “Koyaqqatsi” (sp?) and drank some nice red wine. On Sunday's we have a standing agreement to drop by to say hello to Rachele and Lori for brunch.
On Friday (December 2nd) we went to hang out at with her friend Adam and some other friends I did not know. We had a nice time, and stayed there eating potluck pizza until close to midnight. It was very cold outside when she dropped me off home, and after some initial confusion, she stayed the night at my place.
On Saturday (December 3rd) night, there was the Q dance at the campus barn. The turnout was better than last time, and Kadie and I danced until about midnight. While we were standing around waiting for the door prizes to be drawn, a girl came up to us. Neither of us knew who she was, but the first thing out of her mouth was “Are you two a couple?” Suffice to say we were both a little dumbstruck by that, and we both mumbled something along the lines of “We're not really sure yet”. Later that night we talked about our mutual positions with regards to recent and more distant relationship breakdowns, and about where we thought this friendship might be going.
On Sunday she gave me a lift out to the airport, and we said our temporary goodbyes. On Saturday she is going to be involved with a cross-country ski race, and so she has invited me along. I haven't been cross-country skiing since the time I went with Susan, Jules, Bridget, Heather and company back during grad school. That was before transition, so it must have been at least 5 or 6 years back.
Kadie is really nice, although somewhat quiet. She knows red wine and exotic cheeses, speaks French and plays the piano. Last Friday she gave me an impromptu recital that she said was cheesy, but which I (musically illiterate) though was great.
