Red vs. Blue.

My what a busy week it has been.

Wednesday 7th: Dan picked me up from the airport and we headed home. However his car had no heating and it was about –30C. On the way home the engine started to overheat and so we pulled into a service station. It turned out that he had no fluid in his radiator, and so I bought some anti-freeze fluid for him. That solved the overheating problem, as well as the broken heater.

Thursday 8th: I woke up at 6:30 am to get ready for my exam. The guys in my group were very kind and had done my part of the assignment, so I at least didn't have to worry about that. The test was rather silly, and I was finished with it rather quickly. I spent most of the day just catching up with all the things that had fallen by the wayside while I had been preparing for the interview. That night I was happy to stay at home and chill out. I read the novel “Kavalier and Clay” which Kadie and lent me.

Friday 9th: This was Abbott's last day, so I caught up with him to make sure I had everything under control. It was also the last day of classes before finals week. In the afternoon Kadie came by the lab and so we went for a cycle down to her place. It is a nice place, albeit rather cold. Afterwards we walked up to the campus barn, where one can rent ski equipment. I picked up the gear I was going to need for the next day's skiing, and we carried it over to my apartment. We stayed there for a while and then I locked up my bike and we walked back to Kadie's place. She changed clothes and we decided to head to downtown for coffee. While we were sitting in the coffee shop, I noticed that Super-G was playing there tonight, and so we decided to come back when they were playing.
We wandered through the downtown area, and spent a lot of time in the local bookshop. We dropped in and said hello to the girls in Super-G, and the Kadie drove us back to her place. We sat on the couch watching Monty Python, and then we started to *cough* get to know each other a little better.
Later that night I came out to her, and she reacted in a way that makes me wish I hadn't. We didn't get very much sleep that night for reasons both good and bad.

Saturday 10th: The next morning she woke up first, and I got up later. We were slow to get started, and after dropping by my place to pick up the skis, we headed for the slopes. Kadie knows the cross-country ski coach, which is how she knew that this ski ranch was having an open day. They were having a series of races as a fundraiser, and so they were fun to watch. I was not in good shape, and so Kadie was always way off in the distance. I wondered if she was upset or angry with me, but I wasn't sure. About midday she wasn't feeling so well, and so we sat in her truck and had the lunch that I had brought.
In the afternoon, we drove back to her place and stayed there watching Wallace and Grommit. She lay with her head in my lap and I stroked her hair. In the evening we drove to get a Monty Python DVD as well as pizza and beer. We came back to my apartment where we chilled out and eventually fell asleep.

Sunday 11th: The next day we lounged around in bed for some time before finally getting up. I cooked pancakes, and we had a nice relaxing morning. I had thought that Lois was giving the sermon at the UU's that morning, but when we got there it was actually someone else. We only stayed for a little while, before Kadie had to leave. She is from a conservative religious background and wasn't really ready to deal with that sort of thing just yet.

She drove home, with my chap stick on her lips, and I headed in the opposite direction to have brunch with Lori P. Rachel was out of town working, and so we went downtown. We talked for a long time, which was nice and then I walked home again. At about 3 pm I stopped off at the lab to check my email, and I had only been there about 15 minutes when my cell phone rang. It was Syd, and she was on her way to go and visit Robin and Dee. I hadn't seen Robin or Dee in months, and so I happily agreed to go along.
We drove the 12 miles or so to Robin and Dee's place, and it was great to see them. They hadn't changed much, except that Robin had quit her job at the security company and was now selling used books full time through Amazon. They had prepared a little set of chocolate goodies and pseudo-blackmail photos for Syd, Jen and myself. We played some 1980's trivial pursuit, but none of us were very good at it. Syd had to leave about 5 pm, and so I caught a lift with her.
We dropped by Kadie's place so I could pick up a CD that she wanted copied. I copied them at work, and then headed home. Time was insufficient to deal with longing, and Kadie dropped by my apartment later on. We listened to the CD (Kraftwerk's – The Mix), but were very chaste (alas). She left to go study for her final exams. I continued to clean up my apartment, as it had become a shambles.

Monday 12th: Although this day was mostly relaxed, it started off with me receiving several rejection letters in the mail. That put it on a somewhat downward gradient. I ran back and forth between work and home to do laundry and to help Mike and Wednesday move out of their apartment. I also received the card that Bonnie had written for Lois and Lori, and put it with the “Dykes to Watch Out For” books I had bought for them. I delivered this to Lois and Lori's house, and then picked up a cookbook I had seen in a store downtown. From there I went to the supermarket to get ingredients for the recipe that I wanted to cook.
I had invited Kadie to dinner to celebrate her first two finals being out of the way. I made this interesting bread bowl that was filled with spinach, artichokes and cheese. With it went red wine and sweet potatoes. She enjoyed it, and after dinner I gave her a long back massage as we both watch Monty Python's “Spanish Inquisition” episode.
Afterwards I was trying to get her to open up and talk about her past, but it difficult. She told me a few things, but often she would deflect questions, or say that she'd talked about them enough with therapists. Her inability to be open is an ironic counterpoint to how I used to be compared with how I am now. It frustrates me and although it is nice to have someone in my life, not being able to have her talk openly makes me wonder how long this will last.
