Smile like you mean it.

I'm about three hours into the flight with ten hours to go. It's been a long day of waiting, which was not assisted by being unable to sleep last night. All I can say is that I hope things go well with the immigration service. This morning was slow while I waited for the banks to open so that I could get some money out. Following that I caught the train to the airport and then it became “hurry up and wait”. There was a wait to check bags, waits to clear security and customs, waits for boarding as well as extra security checks.

I haven't received any word on m proposals yet, although it may be slightly premature. I am surprised by the lack of work I have performed on my proposals while I've been on holidays. This is a good thing, and it will give me time to look at them critically. Grants are; if nothing else, a numbers game. With funding rates only being approximately 10-20%, it means you have to put anywhere between five and ten proposals to have any chance at all. I have a lot of thoughts in my head about how research really works, as opposed to the way they are supposed to work, but it would be redundant.

DJ Digweed is playing at a club in San Francisco on the evening I get in. Kadie wants to find some kick-ass techno music, and I couldn't imagine a better confluence of events. First however we need to get tickets.
