It is the last evening before lectures begin, and I am having trouble getting to sleep. My lecture notes are mostly prepared, and there has been a big push of the long weekend to prepare the building for occupancy. This has not been assisted by a cold snap that has plunged temperatures down to around -12C, and left a foot of snow on everything.
I have been working all weekend, and when it has not been lecture notes, then it has been gathering glassware for the teaching laboratory, or undertaking experiments, or other essential things. This has not left me with much time for socializing, but nevertheless I had a nice social brunch after attending the Unitarian Universalist meeting on Sunday.
Kadie and I are still communicating, and she seems to have settled her altercation with Robin. I know she would like to get back together, but I must be strong and not allow this to happen. I know that we would simply revert back to our old patterns, and this would be unhealthy for both of us.
We have imitated each other though; as yesterday evening she had her eyebrow pierced. I couldn't help but roll my eyes when she said that she was surprised that it didn't hurt. She has been talking about this for over a year, but whenever we would go into a piercing shop, she would chicken out. Today therefore, I decided to go and have my eyebrow piercing reopened. It was nice and inexpensive, and in a few weeks I will upgrade from the simple bar I have in now to something more fancy.
Tomorrow in addition to my lecture, I also have a research group meeting in the evening. I also have to try to attend rugby training as we are apparently scheduled to have a match on the 3rd February. There is a faculty candidate here tomorrow as well, but I will not be meeting with him until Wednesday lunchtime. I will unfortunately miss the scheduled social event tomorrow evening.
In other news, Alex's pipes froze, and she does not have any water. I simply hope that they do not burst. I am trying to get to the gym at regular intervals, as well as continuing to practice my Japanese. I am also looking at a map of the USA in partial preparation for my big cross country road trip in late July. That will see me driving 2,459 miles on the way back from Rhode Island after my usual summer conference.
