Phew! Goddam, what a busy couple of days. I'm writing this from home in Tumut! Yes, my first time home since Xmas, and yet here I am! Obviously I don't have access to my past diary entries, so I'm unable to say exactly when I wrote last, but I have the feeling that it may have been Wednesday night.
No… in the end I didn't get my eyebrows waxed, I figured that if I was going to come home for a week that it might not be such a great idea.
Ok, so what's been up? Thursday and Friday were particularly uninspiring days at the laboratory, but I did get a fair bit of essential ground work covered. Friday was the day that I kept on forgetting that we were having dinner with Red, fortunately I remembered. I got back to John's around 5:00 pm, but I was feeling pretty weird, so it took me ages to get my shit together. Susan came down at 5:15 pm looking very nice and smelling wonderful. I quickly tried to gather my wits and everything else. Stuffed my pills and camera and other stuff into my bag and we were ready to go.
Unfortunately due to me we were running late for the bus, but we walked quickly into town and caught a convenient one into Manuka. We were talking loudly and disparinginly about people and architecture, but I guess we were feeling young and arrogant, so hey! See if I care… ;)
So we got into Manuka and couldn't find Red or Jules. Eventually we found them having coffee at a coffee shop just across the road, and we joined them whilst they finished. Then we headed into the supermarket to get some wine, that took forever because I know Jules and I were both brain-dead and didn't know what the hell was going on. So we got the wine and went to the restaurant and it was OK. Not long after we got there, Jules's ear suddenly started bleeding for no apparent reason. I was so out of it, it was like I was totally drugged out of my mind, thankfully I got over that once I had a chance to sit down. Not long after that, Red started feeling really ill, she left the restaurant momentarily and when she came back she was really flushed. Then Jules started feeling rather seedy also. What with those two feeling sick and me and Susan feeling fine we decided to quit dinner early and walk back to Red's place. I had polished off most of my bottle of red wine by myself, so was feeling rather tipsy but not too drunk.
We walked back to Reds place which was a nice walk in the cold, and we had coffee and so on. Red said "Oh, got to show you something…" and she pulled out her red formal dress which we had never seen before. It was pretty snazzy, strappy and long. We all demanded that she put it on so she did, and it actually looked quite nice. At that point I remembered I had brought my camera with me, so we got some photo's of her.
She took it off and I was looking at it, when Susan said "Come on Steve, you'll fit into it". So before long after a bit of tucking, I was being photographed in Red's dress and Susan's jacket. After a while of swanning about I got back into drab mode, and before too long I had dragged (pun intended) Jules into Red's mum's room and tossed him the dress also. After a few shots of Jules in the red dress which was funny (sorry Jules's, you'll need more attitude to be a queen) at last it was Susan's turn and I had to admit that she looked the best. It fitted her quite well and looked good anyway. So, after everyone had had photo's taken with the dress, Red's gun and cool officer's hat, we were all crashed out round the sofa's just relaxing and listening to the Smashing Pumpkin's which was really cool.
Actually, one of the nicest moments during the night was when Red was putting on the dress at first and Jules said "One of you girls had better help Red zip her dress up". Of course there was only me and Susan there, so I was really chuffed… :) Thanks Jules *smile*
Anyway, eventually around 10:30 pm we had to catch the last bus back into Civic. It was OK, except we would have had to have waited 20 minutes for the bus to the ANU. Unfortunately I was not feeling particularly safe having had bad experiences around that area, so I asked if we could walk home. Of course I forgot that Susan was probably cold and had new shoes on. Thankfully we got back to John's without incident, and we all crashed in my room (which was nice) to read the paper and just chat. Also talked briefly to Red on ICQ. I was feeling pretty weirded out, but I managed to make a reasonable attempt at sanitizing my room before my parents got there. About 12:30 pm I crashed out.
I woke up about 9:00 am and knew I had to do a lot of stuff. I had breakfast and checked email as per usual, then went to have a shower. Unfortunately I ended up locking myself out of my room wearing only my towel. So I had to walk down to the front phone and call Lloyd who was the duty tutor. He let me back in and I had a nice shower. I also stuck my laundry in before I got in the shower so I could stick it into the drier when I got out. So I did that and gave the room a continuing clean. After that I chatted to Red on ICQ and then I cycled into town to drop off the film from the night before. Unfortunately it wasn't going to be ready until 1:00 pm. So finally mum called at about 1:00 pm saying that they were at the car auctions and they would be over soon. Susan and Jules came down stairs. Apparently they had sent a phone message, but no light had appeared on the phone. So we chatted and read "Girl Power" for a while and then headed off. Mum and dad turned up at 1:30 pm and we did the usual chat's. I headed to the lab at 2:00 pm to take the reaction off, and I also headed into town to pick up the photo's. I only got to look at them briefly, but they looked OK. Some were funny, some were just good. As I was cycling back past workies, I bumped into Susan and Jules! They were out roller-blading, so I was able to give them the photos. The I got back home, feeling very hot and flustered and threw all my junk into the car. The trip back was not too bad. Due to all the water in my body, I had to get out at Gundagai and go to the toilet which was really weird having to ask to stop at the rest-rooms when we got there. So I'm home now, and there was the usual sense of weird-arsed déjà vu. I had dinner and was absolutely stuffed, had a shower as well, but there was no pressure so that is something I'll have to get used to. I had a snooze and dragged the laptop and a monitor into my room so that I could type up this diary entry. I'll save it on floppy disk and transfer it to my own machine back at university and then upload to my site.
So of course the thing that my dear readers are undoubtedly wondering is how has the reaction been from my parents so far? Well nothing really. Mum commented on the fact that I had my extensions taken out, but apart from that nothing. She has Friday off, so maybe we'll have a nice mother-daughter talk then…
Ok, it's about 9:50 pm at the moment, and I'm not sure what the hell I'm going to do, either now or for the rest of the week. I feel I want to walk around Tumut and see and come to terms with the places which formed my formative early years. I'm not sure why, but I guess I feel I want to exorcise a few of the demons of my past. There aren't many here, but I guess it's more like I want to go to the places which formed me, for some ritual purpose… I'm not entirely sure why, but I guess salmon don't know why they want to swim upstream to the place of their birth either.
I guess Jen must be away on her kayaking expedition (I wish she'd write, even just a quick note), Michelle is in Melbourne (She's too busy to write *sigh*), Nikki will be at home in Canberra (she always writes *smile*) and Szusza is god knows where (I need to write to her).
Jeeze, now I'm really starting to get tired, I guess I'll call it a night for now. I have to admit, typing a diary entry is sooooo much easier then writing it by hand. Oh well, hopefully I'll have something of relative interest to say soon enough. :)
