Okkie, let's finish this Ball saga if I can…
THE GLITTER BALL PART II : THE SAGA CONTINUES
Ok, so I was there chatting with Michelle and So I dumped my stuff in what looked like a spare seat. Unfortunately a queen had already put her stuff there. She came back when we were sitting down listening to the gay choir. She didn't seem too impressed, but I feigned innocence and kept the seat, yay! So after the choir had finished, Michelle and I went around meeting a whole bunch of her friends, another Stephanie, the Michelle from Sydney and a few others. While we were talking to Stephanie, someone came up behind us and said "Hello" and it was Jennifer! I was so happy to see her, I didn't think she was going to make it back from Palau for the Ball, so it was fantastic that she had gotten there. I gave her a hug and we all started talking at about 50 words a second… apparently she had missed a flight out of Palau (only two per week) and had been held up in the Philippines with some passport difficulty. She had only gotten back on Thursday around midday which meant she was still quite tired… So after further socializing, we were all snapping photo's into the evening. Finally at about 9:30 pm I actually had some dinner. I was feeling a little bit scatter-brained, and I kept getting hot flushes which forced me out of the hot noisy ball room to either the toilets or outside for quiet and some cold fresh air…
So there was a swing band playing and I got accosted on the dance floor by a big tranny from Sydney Seahorse who flung me about the floor and was quite pissed. She also got me later in the night and asked for my address, I gave something approximating my address since she didn't have email, and then she regaled me with a wonderful description of her hernia and at that point I started feeling rather nauseous… at the last moment however Michelle rescued me and dragged me off to meet some other people and I was extremely grateful. So after that I was a bit more wary and so I had a good chat to the people at my table, Linda and then Ella from Griffith who was at her first time out. I had met her briefly at the Salon earlier, but didn't recognize her immediately. So I had a good chat with her, I was trying to be supportive of people who were new or hadn't been out before, and I think I did alright. :)
I talked to Jane from Cooma and also to Julia the GG hairstylist which was nice (in the bathroom after another hot flush) and Chrissy from Queensland as well. I also danced a reasonable amount, I went out for more fresh air and came in to see Szusza playing bass for "Shake, rattle and Roll" and I got a couple of photo's of that. They had a short 'fashion" parade which was "interesting", I had a brief chat to Jen during this, but was feeling rather flaky… After more sitting and more ice water, I bumped into Michelle and chatted more, and then they stated playing "New York, New York" which is usually the last song. So we got up and danced to that, but it was actually the second last song so we decided to see if we could con Jen into jumping on the dance floor to no avail… Our meager strength couldn't do it, then we tried pleading, cajoling, the prospect of humiliating ourselves and a not so serious guilt trip and alas we ran out of options just as the song finished. So that was a win for her this time… just she wait till next time… ;) That'll be Polly's Ball, unfortunately I won't have my faithful comrade Michelle to back me up as she'll be recovering… *sigh*
So, after the music had all wrapped up that was the signal to head to the Meridian. Szusza gave a lift to myself, Chrissy and Joanne (from Sydney) and we parked across the road. I quickly changed out of my long black dress into the short one I had brought with me. The Meridian was really packed, but the people who had gotten there earlier had secured a table up behind the dance floor so at least out group had a common place to hang out and chat (barely). I dropped off my coat behind the bar and touched up my make-up as best I could. It was peeling rather badly around my mouth with the dry skin underneath it curling up. But by the time I got back, the DJ was playing a really good hard-core set, and I was really getting into it. I was sweating a fair bit, but I was drinking plenty of water. That went on for a fair while and I got chatting to Jane, and we had quite a nice talk. Around 2:00 am the dance-floor started to thin out so I got up there. About 3:00 am I went to see the others who were waiting on a taxi. I stood around in the cold chatting, and at about 3:30 am, with the ordered taxi not appearing, Jen offered us a lift which was really great of her.
There was 6 of us crammed into Jen's little Lexus, but thankfully we dumped one at the Rex and then went to John's. I sprawled/fell out of the car, just as another car pulled up behind us in the John's parking lot. I don't think they saw who I was, but I'm not sure… So because there were some people around, I went for a walk over to Ursula and then back when the coast was clear. I was really in an upbeat mood seeing myself in the mirror, so I kept on having surges of exhaustion and ecstasy until about 4:30 am in the morning when I wen to bed. I tried writing a diary entry, but it was pretty unconnected.
I knew I'd have to get up early the next day, because I'd promised to meet the others at the Rex for the recovery breakfast at 9:30 am, and that was only a few hours away…
Okkie, the story of Sunday tomorrow, I'm off to bed hopefully before midnight…
Bye!! :)
