God it's been a while since I've updated this, it's going to take forever…
Ok, last Wednesday I had my hair moisturized and styled, and it looked really great. I caught a taxi to Belconnen and then a bus back to the ANU where I went back to work. I think I raised a few eyebrows because I was wearing very unfamiliar clothes i.e. jeans, and my hair was done nicely for a change. I went home relatively early because my feet were a bit sore. I can't remember what I got up to, probably nothing too exciting.
Thursday I did more lab work, mostly just typing up my experimental data. There was a lecture at 4:00 pm, but I had previous arrangements. At 4:30 pm I cycled over and crashed out in Café Essen to wait for Jen who I was going to have coffee with. I corrected mistakes in OMNO's 17 and 20 which gave me something to do because Jen was running 30 minutes late. That was cool, and she got there and we started having a good old chat about everything. She was leaving for Palau at 8:30 am the next morning, so I was glad she had taken time out to see me. She had to buy a CD for T- who was accompanying her to Palau for the two weeks. So we headed over to Revolution and found it straight away. It was Aqua, so I gently disparaged her saying that she was getting all "teeny-boppy".
After that we headed back to Essen for more coffee and talking which was really wonderful. Usually I find it hard to make conversation with a lot of people (even those I know well) but today I was really flowing. She had to go at 5:50 pm, so we had a nice mutual hug and she was gone.
I was in a really good mood so I headed back to the lab. I worked for a bit longer and my mood continued to ascend. I went to the toilet and saw myself in the mirror and went "YES!!!" and I was humming and so on and giving myself big "Sailor-Moon" victory signs…
About 6:30 pm I headed home and whenever I saw myself, I saw the person I wanted to be and my mood continues to rise and improve. ^_^ I danced around to some of my favourite Techno, and eventually managed to wear myself down a little.
I cooked some pasta for dinner and eating that brought me down fairly quickly. Not long after that my bubbly mood continued to descend to it's normal level, which felt like a real downer. So I was at my normal "base-line" and I felt depressed because I hadn't been so euphoric in so long. Jules came down for a while and I did some domestic tasks and chatted to him. He was reading the Georgina Beyer autobiography, and enjoying all the Wellington references which I didn't get. I went up briefly to see if Bridget was home, and she was. I chatted to her for an hour about a lot of stuff, seems like she'd had a pretty good holiday and the American Stef came in and we all chatted for a while.
I said my goodnights and headed down stairs, I had completely forgotten that I had left Jules in my room… Whoops… ;) so then I went to bed.
Friday was another lab day, and about noon I got back a very bad and disappointing piece of data. I had been hanging a lot of hope on it, and it made me doubt all of my results… suffice to say it put me in a bad mood and set the scene for the rest of the day… Gradually over the rest of the afternoon, little things began to irritate me to the point where one of my work colleagues suggested I go home which I did. Things did not improve once I got there.
Wagga chicks in the stairwell shouting caused me to crack the shits and I shouted "Shut the F**k up!" and went down and slammed my door as hard as I could. I went to talk to Susan and that calmed me down temporarily. After that however, I cracked my knee badly in the bathroom, the pizza I ordered arrived only after I had to reorder it and was hence 2.5 hours late. I sat in my isolation chamber with the door locked so I wouldn't explode at anyone…
It took me a little while to remember that it was exactly one week since my Progynova script had started and hence it was easy to put two and two together. I was pretty sure however, that like the Androcur mood-swings it hopefully would be only temporary. So I crashed out and tried to chill.
I knew I had to wake up early on Saturday to find a new bike. I had been asked to do the male cycle leg of the inter-college triathlon. Unfortunately my body interpreted a wake-up as coinciding with the sun shining though my windows at exactly 6:30 am. The bright sun coming through the curtains made it impossible to get back to sleep, so I got up and shaved and had breakfast and all that sort of thing. None of the shops opened until at least 9:00 am so I had ages to wait around. I went to Target but there were no racers there, so I went to another shop in Braddon, and they had a pretty good bike for $150. It was in pretty good condition and in my size, so after a bit of testing I bought it. It was a bit of a hassle to get both bikes home, but I managed it.
I got some practice in on the new bike, and it was very good. The bike is much lighter than my old one and has gears which actually work!
It was John's weekend, so the day out the back was getting started. Michelle W- was doing the girls cycle leg, so thankfully I had someone whom I knew and liked to chat too. It was a very hot day, and I was really worried about my skin, I wore a hat and sun-screen, but the heat and sun go to my face pretty quickly and started to make it peel. The race itself was not much, we were slowly losing ground, and I was up against a lot of very expensive cyclists and professional people. I'm sorry, but for $3000 I'd rather get a tracheal shave rather than a new bike… But in the end we came in last and we got to go home. I'd done my bit for John's sport in the second semester.
I was very wasted when I got home (~4:30 pm), but Nikki had called and had wanted to come around for chats so I gave her a buzz. She dropped around with some alcohol (Stolly's - Yum) and we chatted for about two hours or so. It was a nice talk, she was expressing how much she wants to go and see her friend in South America.
So Nikki left about 7:30 pm, and I needed to have a shower. Unfortunately I got my hair wet and slept with it damp which made it look totally hideous the next morning. I went to sleep at about 8:30 pm and slept on and off till 8:30 am the next morning.
So I woke up and was annoyed at myself for killing my hair like that because it looked disgusting and headed down to brunch. No one was there because they were still all recovering from the festivities of the last few days. After that I didn't have much to do, so I headed into Civic to buy some food for the B.B.Q. which was planned for that day.
I came back and updated my diary and then Paul and Heather turned up. I had to race to get all my stuff together, and thankfully Paul gave me and Bridget a lift down to Black Mt. Peninsula in his new car. It was very windy, and I only had one tiny hair-band in my bag. Fortunately it was good enough and we were able to cook our food. I had sausages in buns and brought a mud-cake as dessert. We all sat around chatting and eating, and it was really great. Jules W- had cooked too many sausages and soon they were being thrown around. A game of cricket was started and sausages were being used as much as the tennis balls. I got some photo's of the whole affair. The cricket game went on for a fair while, and then started to peter out. Then it started to rain slightly, so that was the signal to clean up and head for the cars. I took the remains of the cake gathered my stuff and jumped in Paul's car for the ride home. Paul, Heather and Jules W- didn't stay for long, but it was nice to see them and for them to give us lifts there and back. First we all crashed out in Susan's room and then we went up to Bridget's for coffee which was nice. We sat around talking for a fair while, and then people started to head off slowly. I wanted to finish off the roll of film I had in the dodgy disposable camera, so I got Jules to take a few photo's of me on the back steps of Johns.
I then headed up to Lloyd's room where a few people were chatting and gave him the rest of the cake. I figured I owed him for food and just for being an understanding friend (and there was no way in hell I was going to eat all the rest of it myself) and so that was cool. He had been at paintball all day.
So after a while, I went downstairs and bummed around. Later on I went into Civic to get some milk and hair-bands.
