Arrgghh… where the heck has the year gone?! Like it's the second half of November already!? That means only about 45 days left in the year and just under 4 weeks till my supervisor gets back… things are certainly starting to warm up.
Today at work was pretty ordinary, neither the ANU nor the chemical supply company had the chemical I wanted, meaning I have to make it from scratch. Not such a huge problem, except we just ran out of the essential solvent and that has to be ordered in from the chemical supply company and so will take a week to get here. That was quite annoying, and so I rang Nikki and we did lunch for a bit. That was good, she had all sorts of news to regale me with, and I of course reciprocated with my tale of my trip to Sydney. We chatted for quite a while and eventually I went back to the lab. I puttered away for a bit longer, doing a reaction I had actually thought about over a year ago, when Peta rang. She was only going to get 24 hours between getting the contract and flying out, and so she was just doing some catching up. We chatted at Essen for a fair while (I had mango smoothie then coffee) and then after we had talked about her involvement in SGAP and her love of gardening, she asked if I wanted to see her garden. I had only been to her place once, and that was for dinner (i.e. it was dark). So we jumped into her car and she gave me the guided tour. It was pretty cool, I recognized a few of the native types, but my usual appreciation was reserved for the ferns and elms at the front. No trip being complete without me having to pry a look at the enormous stack of books she has, I'd say we probably have about the same number if you count the shelves I have at home, but hers was definitely more homogeneous. Me, I'll collect virtually anything as long as it has pages and a cover. ;)
So that was really nice of her to show me around the place, the tour of course taking quite a bit longer than it would of my room ("Ok, here's the room."). Oh well, never mind. One day perhaps I shall have an abode of mine own, I just don't expect it to occur for quite a number of years.
So after I thanked her very much for that, she dropped me back off in Civic and I cycled back to the lab. I put on 2 reactions, and went home about 6:45 pm. I had a salami sandwich or two for dinner and then did the nap thing between 8:00 pm and 10:00 pm. I had a quick chat to Soba on ICQ, but she went to bed relatively soon after.
I didn't get around to ringing Kelly Jones like she asked me today, I'll have to do that tomorrow. I also had Nikki's book but forgot to give that to her.
