Hmmm… what's been happening over the last few days?
Ok, work to begin with has been mostly postering. It got a final look at this morning and just needs to be printed out, stuck on cardboard, laminated and so on.
So, the two nicest things that happened were a phone call from Peta G and dinner with the usual gang.
Dinner was organized by Red who had just gotten back from Malta and also there was Susan and Jules, Bridget and Lloyd. This was a really great time, just like old times. The thing is that organizing an outing involving my friends involves a lot of planning. You can't invite Heather and Lloyd to an function together because of their past, Jules W is homophobic and can't be invited to a lot of functions with us of "dubious morality", and there are all these other chess like moves which have to be made and strategy employed to get people together. But last night, there was no one giving anyone else angst (I think) and we are all still good friends even if we don't see each other too much these days. We had dinner at Little Saigon and stuffed ourselves and then went to Essen for coffee. I ordered a mango smoothie (surprise) and everyone else learnt the joy of Essen smoothies… Mmmm…
I went in jeans and my maroon top and I don't think I got too many looks which is fine by me… "No, nothing special here. I'm just a tall girl, pay no attention to me…" *g* and although it was a rather hot night I felt good about myself just being out and about and "normal". It was Goth night at the Gypsy Bar and so that provided us with some amusement also. We parted ways at about 10:30 pm or so and I came home, it was so nice to see everyone again. :)
The other thing was Peta's phone call. The email I sent her was I guess part of the reason I suppose but it was wonderful to hear her voice for the first time in about 2.5 months. We talked for a fair while about all sorts of things and it was a lot like being at coffee again… almost… I of course was feeling guilty about causing any grief or stealing her away from her work, but that's just me as usual. Given the 4 hour time difference between here and there, it was about midnight here and so about 8 o'clock or so over there. After the phone call I was feeling nice and fuzzily warm on the inside and (this will sound corny so excuse me here) I actually slept quite well that night and dreamt I was walking around a very weird portion of Jakarta with Peta the next night.
What else? Again I fiddled with my reaction scheme. In another attempt I went for the dichloromethane and water extraction and I do have some material which I have yet to filter and analyze, but time will tell.
That's about the majority of thrilling stuff, I don't know when the conference is supposed to start, but I guess I can check that before Sunday afternoon. Johns will most likely be flooded with delegates also, so it's going to be busy and then the students will start returning also… ahhh… farewell quiet summer.
It was pretty good I admit, I didn't have to worry about what anyone thought, because there was no-one here to concern my self about. But naturally, there is going to be the new first years who will say "Is that a guy or a girl" and so on, oh well, I'll get over it.
Ok, Peta just installed ICQ, so I've been chatting to her for a while… now for bed…
One last email check revealed… an email from Michelle! Seems she'll be down in a week or so…
