5:25 pm Sunday 19th March 2000

Phew… just woke up from a two hour nap courtesy of not getting enough sleep last night.
Hmmm… only about three diary entries this week, I must be getting slack in my old age. But nothing too much exciting really, it's been hot and I've been trying to get my work done and unsuccessfully trying to email a whole bunch of people. Saturday however was the harbour cruise. It wasn't until 9:00 pm, and I got bored rather quickly with waiting around at John's and so I rang and chatted with Soba.

7:45 pm - Ok, the cruise. I had known that this little soiree had been planned for several weeks before, but work being work, and me being me meant that Szusza called me on Wednesday and asked whether I was coming or not, to which I said sure. Since that was the only thing planned for Saturday night, I came home, got dressed, tried out some new foundation and escaped John's without running into anyone close enough to see me at short range. It is a bit of a hassle like that, but for the moment it is I know only a temporary nuisance.
So, because the ferry pier was not too far I walked over. It was very steamy and I got sweaty, but I had arrived early enough to have time to cool off. I suppose there might have been thirty people or so there, and I guess I got to talk to a most of them. I was feeling slightly underdressed in jeans and my long leather jacket, as there were people there in formal wear.
The dinner was a buffet and dessert and I got to chat to Felicity who did my nails before Mardi Gras, and she is really nice, I just felt like one girl talking to another. :) The annoying part was the constant playing (7 or 8 times) of some Shania Twain song which was getting rather annoying by the end of the cruise. I chatted with Peta B and we organized to do coffee with Peta G the next day.
Peta B gave me a lift back to the edge of Uni and I wandered back through the intermittent rain which had been falling all evening and wow it was so nice, though I was quite tired. I did the make-up removal and crashed out for some irregular sleep.
I woke up about 10:00 and went down to brunch and chatted with this guy from John's whom I had met briefly before. He mentioned he had been to the Meridian and that there was a reasonably average drag show on and we just chatted about related things as a show of the existence of non-heterosexuality in College life. ^_~
I then headed over to the lab to isolate the crystals of material which my supervisor and I had worked on over Thursday and Friday. It was nice and quiet, though the day was really humid and I didn't want to get all sticky. I headed over to Essen at 12:00 pm and met up with Peta B. I was still quite stuffed from lack of sleep, but Peta G and T***** came along after a while and perked the conversation up. We had a nice time and we parted at about 1:00 pm. I would have liked to have stayed in the city a bit, but I didn't want to spend any money and so I came home instead and after reading some Manga I crashed out for a few hours. After that I went to the lab while some pasta was going around the microwave, came home, had dinner and then chatted to Mum and Dad on the phone.
Mum will be coming over tomorrow as she is bringing the little green car back. It will be nice to see her, and since it is a public holiday tomorrow (Canberra Day) we can just wander about the place before she heads back about 7:00 pm. I know I feel close to her, so I'm glad she is able to make it over here considering it is a rather dull 3 hour road trip.

On Friday Bridget, heather and Jules W had a pseudo-house warming / St Patrick's Day celebration type party. I got over there after work at about 6:00 pm and got introduced to the concept of "Dry and Dry's". This is a mixture of dry Cinzanno (sp?) and dry ginger ale with a slice of lemon. It was really nice, because you can't taste the alcohol and it is a great drink for hot sticky days like it had been. So we just crashed around amusing ourselves and then we got the traditional Aussie B.B.Q. fired up and burnt a few sausages. With more drinks, good (and as usual for a few, crass) humor and a nice night it all was really quite good. It's good that I have such a bunch of nice, mostly well-balanced, cool friends. Illara has commented how she wants to meet more "normal" (i.e. non trans friends) and so apart from appreciating them for being friends, I guess I am doubly lucky. I got home and to bed at about 1:30 am, so that would explain why I was so stuffed after two days of late nights and early mornings.

12:40 am - Ok, after a spectacularly bad American movie (a disaster and a disastrous film in one) and then a bit of lazing about I suppose I should get some sleep. I have sent some email, but need to do more still, I think after a few sacrifices I've nearly caught up.
