Ok, Sunday was rather unexpectedly a day of exercise. Now that my bike is all fixed and flashy I decided to go for a cycle just to get the speed rush I obtain from cycling. It was really great, halfway around the lake (Lake Burley-Griffin which is the central feature to Canberra) I took off my jersey which was too thick for the bright sunny day and I went cycling in the white sports bra I had bought the day before. It was so exhilarating that something eventually had to go wrong…
I got about 7-8 km out from home near Kings Avenue Bridge where there was a lot of smashed glass from bottles on the ground. I tried to avoid it, but not long after I pulled up with a flat front tire. This was extremely annoying since I had brought no repair kit with me and I was a long way from home. I carried the bike back to the Carillon (a big bell-tower landmark) chained it up and started jogging back. This is where my level of unfitness hit me. I'm great at cycling, but I'm a dud at running these days it seems. I did get a few stares as I was still wearing the sports bra, but the sun was burning brightly and so I had to keep heading for home. Once I got back to College I took the little green car and picked up the bike. The front tire had three (!) different punctures and took forever to fix as I kept discovering them.
I was pretty flaked out after all the exercise, so I didn't do much else in the afternoon. I did a little bit of lab-work, but mostly I just lay around and snoozed. I chatted with Mum and Dad and that was good and that was that for the day.
Monday was another hectic day. It's taking some getting used to constantly wearing the new sports-bra's. If the strap is too close to the neck, it can really be painful after a while. Anyway, after running around with my supervisor, I got a disappointment first when one compound turned out to be not what we had hoped, and what we thought was a novel compound had already been made by some of our arch-enemies. That it has been made is good, that they made it first is bad… you get the idea.
In the morning I got up quite early because of the change over due to daylight savings. I took that as an opportunity to get my blood-test done, and although I had to wait a while, more amusing were the stares of a mother-daughter pair (?) in the waiting room. Usually when you stare back at them they look away, but no… these two (especially the Mum) were determined to sus me out. This also complements something which happened on Sunday night, I went to the toilets near the TV room, and a guy was at the urinal. He turned when I came in and said "Am I in the right one?" After some amusement on my behalf I assured him he was, and he left after a while. I suppose it's good, who knows at this rate, maybe I'll get "Missed" sometime in the next few months?
I suppose I should be a little worried about the blood-test, but at the moment I just either too busy while I'm at work or I'm too tired to care after coming home from work. I had pizza tonight and I now feel pretty gross.
Oh, and the J.Chem.Edu paper which has been hanging around our necks like a mill-stone is about to be sent off. I scanned the last spectra today, and more importantly I showed my supervisor my new drivers license with "Steph Hurst" on it to prove the name I wanted on the paper was consistent. I still haven't changed it on my student ID yet, but that might be something I will do tomorrow. That along with tidying up the big mess in the lab and cashing the Medicare form for my last Dermatologist appointment. I still have to contact Susan about maybe getting this pewter mug for Red's 21st as well.
Something has happened in the last few weeks… being run off my feet at the lab something had to suffer, and I think it is me having any kind of time or desire to tidy. My room is a disgusting pig-sty, and so is my lab area… I guess it's the conservation of energy principle. Having devoted a lot of energy in a particular direction means it isn't available elsewhere… hence the mess…
It's kind of annoying… first one day just flies by and it's bed-time already, and then suddenly it's the weekend again and then the end of the month and holy toast Xmas and New Year are right around the corner… if you know what I mean… maybe that means I'm actually doing something with my time rather than being bored and staring at the clock… I hope so.
