Blah, dusty room. I think hay-fever season is not too far away…

Ok, aspirin down the hatch, catch-up time.
Last night was the Drag King event at Tilley's. I went jeans, black bra showing through white shirt with slightly vampy hair and make-up, I wanted to get into the swing of things but still be able to look respectable if I needed. I was looking for Rob when I got there, but I quickly noticed a few familiar figures as I wandered around. Lo and behold it was Sharon, Dagmar (lesbian), Linda and Rose, all local, older CD's whom I know. I chatted with them for a while and saw some of the local, out CD population sitting over at another table. So I made my way over there, and got a very warm welcome. Catherine, Elly, Szusza, Mardi (GG), Peta? (GG), Jane, and Sally. They were saying how fabulous I looked (I hadn't seen some of them in months), and I was really flattered and because I often don't take compliments well, I just sat and blushed slightly.
So we all sat and chatted and I slowly drank my Stolly which took a while for me to start because I was chattering away because I hadn't seen them all in quite a long while.
I raced home to get my camera, because there was the usual photo orgy which I think I did actually get a few snaps of various and sundry. It might be interesting to see how that turns out as a preview to the Glitter Ball.
The crowd was mostly the Canberra LBT community, because there weren't all that many gay guys or straight's there, but it was well supported nonetheless (maybe ~200 people). I wasn't sure whether to be miffed, supposedly it was $17 if you came in Drag, but they charged me the full $22! Hmmm… not sure what to make of that, guess I'll take it as a compliment.

So I found myself a good seat, and the Drag King show finally cranked up at around 10:30 pm I think, and it was extremely funny. It was different from the drag shows I seen previously, a big long opening segment, some smaller acts then a few amateur segments which were good. The music was really well put together, and I found myself singing along to MC Hammer, Criss Cross (Mack Daddy 'll make ya jump, jump!), The 12th Man, Regurgitator, and a lot of music I knew well or had been brought up on.
So after that, we danced around to the DJ (well, I did most of the others are +40), until we decided that because the second DJ was crap, to go to Club Mombassa in town. I didn't really like the vibe when we got there, Civic on a Saturday night is a bastion of young, straight, drunk people. A few others felt the same way, and so we headed over to the Meridian instead. The DJ wasn't much better, but we danced anyway. I called it a night much later than I had expected, and got home about 2:00 am. I had to go past the mob of sullen international students some of whom I have to live with, but if they don't like it, well, they can go and…
After a shower to take off my makeup, I got into bed at about 3:00 am.

Sunday morning I woke up at the rather regrettable time of 8:30 am. I knew I had to be around at Burt St at 11:00 am, so I wasn't too rushed. When I actually got everything together and got over there, a rather seedy Bridget was only just having her morning coffee. I sat and watched the kitten play until we were ready to leave. Bridget went to pick up Susan, Jules D and Paul, while I caught a lift to the camp site with Heather and Jules W. Finally we were all there together at about 12:30 pm and the sausage frenzy began. ;)
Lloyd and his new girlfriend Alice showed up somewhat later, it was nice to see both of them, because I had demonstrated Alice in chemistry in first semester 1999. That was before I was on any hormones, so I don't know if she recognized me, but being around my friends, it's hard for me not to slip up, and I imagine Lloyd would have clued her in on any ambiguity after the event.
It was a nice day, a bit cold at time (not as cold as for those who had to wade in and rescue the ball from the river), but a combined Frisbee/soccer type thing was nice though Bridget wasn't feeling 100%.
Eventually we packed up, and headed home at about ~4:00 pm. I got home and crashed out from 5pm till 7 pm when I woke up and called home. Apparently my eldest brother is home from the Navy for two weeks, which I guess must be a nice break from him, rather than being cooped up on a tiny ship with a heap of other people.
Mum will be coming over on Wednesday to see me and take some of my excess junk (mostly old boi clothes) home, this will be in the morning, because I have coffee and then laser zapping in the afternoon. It will be nice to see her, because I haven't seen her since 20th May when Maddy and I drove over to Tumut. I don't think I've changed too radically since then, but it might be interesting to see what she says, or to see if she will give me a hug.

10:50 pm - Heh, I must be feeling good about my body, I'm wondering what sort of bathing suit I'll get once summer rocks around, though an orchiectomy certainly wouldn't hurt (well, not with general anesthetic at least). ;)

Hmmm… let's see, big RACI (Chemistry) dinner on tomorrow, it's heavily subsidized for students like myself, and I've said I'd be there, so I guess I'll be attending. Tuesday night I have the first class in the singing workshop, Wednesday is zapping, coffee and Mum coming over, Thursday DJ class, Friday nothing planned as yet. I'm a little worried about going to DJ class after being zapped only the day before, but I guess that's why they invented cosmetics. ;)
Hmmm… I had some small negative thought briefly skip through my brain, but I can't remember what it was, oh well, I won't go looking for trouble.
