Today was never really likely to be a day on which much work was going to be done.
At 1:30 pm, Bridget drove me over to Fyshwick to the smash repair yard where the car had been towed. Answer? It was a complete write-off. The front of the car had been smashed heavily and there was no chance of repairing it at all. I sorted things out, paid for the towing ($275 - Ouch), took off the license plates, took out the things which were salvageable, organized for a parts yard to take the car away, took a photograph for evidence and then bid the faithful, dutiful old friend good-bye.
I was very glad that Bridget was there, her sense of humor helped to distract me and I really appreciated it.
Earlier that morning I had a phone call from Soba, and she told me that she had quit her job! We went out for lunch to Essen to celebrate, and had a really nice time doing some window shopping before I had to go meet up with Bridget.
In the afternoon I did some small chores and got back to the lab at about 4:00 pm, and did very little until I left at 6:00 pm to come home. Mum phoned and I chatted to her and Dad for a while and filled her in on the details of what had happened.
3:00 am - Tuesday 10th October
My sleeping patterns are pretty screwed up at the moment, mostly due to stress I think.
I just got back from the lab where I put on a single reaction, separated some crystals for analysis and did a small amount of thesis editing, but otherwise accomplished little.
I'm in a slump, there is no doubt about that, it just remains to be seen what exactly it is that kicks me out of aforementioned slump. (I think "aforementioned" is a cool word).
In other news, I got called "Lady" consistently whilst at the card-yard, but I still keep wondering how I could possibly be convincing people of that.
I guess this is something that'll keep bugging me on and off for the rest of my life. Oh well.
