Ok, so I was rather tipsy after Monday night's dinner. Not as tipsy as the Honors student who managed to get gravy down the back of her shirt and red wine down the front.
On Tuesday I didn't do very much till the afternoon. I had organized to call a friend at 4 pm because of the time difference between where she and I were. We had a really amazing +6 hour (!) conversation, and I can definitely say I've never talked to anyone on the phone for so long. She is a really interesting person, and I can only hope that one day we can meet up (if only to save money on phone bills).
Wednesday was the farewell lunch for the Honors student in town at Tu-Tu Tango, a swish sort of Mexican place. It was quite nice, and I got to sit at the end of the table with the people I preferred. The lunch sprawled on for about 2 hours before we headed off. I went back to my room to sleep off the margarita and escape the heat. Later that evening I went back to the lab.
Today was supposed to be the Group Meeting at the Uni Bar for the visiting German professor to let him know what we all did. Unfortunately he didn't turn up, but we went anyway. It was not bad, some beer and some jokes, and thankfully not too hot. I wasn't feeling enormously productive so I went home and napped, then later did some emergency shopping. Ravioli and extra pasta for dinner and then over to the lab a bit before 7 pm. Working semi-hard in the cool of the evening/night until 11 pm on a reaction and my thesis introduction. I spent most of my time learning how to make a MS Word Object but that gave me a cool picture at least.
I seem to be getting into the swing of having a siesta at home during the hot part of the day and working at night in the cool solitude of the lab. Hey, if it works, it works…
What else? I finally made my tapes for Illara, because I borrowed Maddy's stereo when I saw her on Saturday and they are now ready to go. Friday (almost today) is the Department Xmas party and despite the fact that my supervisor and his wife had a shouting match with the IT guy over the web-site, I'm still going, though for $16 it is a bit pricey. Heather asked me to house-sit her cat, but I'm too busy though I will offer to feed it.
In personal news, I like how I look at the moment. I'm tired and horribly unfit, but these are problems which can only be cured by rest and relaxation, something not likely to happen until after the Ph.D. is put to sleep.
I'm still thinking about the orchiectomy, though I feel I can put it off until I have a definite overseas job offer simply because Androcur is cheaper. Peta was going to have some minor surgery but the doctor and her agreed it wasn't really necessary. I want to catch up with a few people before I go home for Xmas, but am trying to be productive at the same time.
Ok, really tired… must crash…
