I am an addict to the blow-wave. A typical time at the hairdressers is about one and a half hours and costs $44 (Aussie dollars). However, considering that every time I have my hair straightened and tidied this way, I waltz about singing "you sexy thang" under my breath for a week or more. So though it's a lot of money, the boost to my self-esteem and ego means it is repaid many times over.
Today was good once I stopped trying to do work. I had an early morning caller *grin* and got into the lab where my reaction had not worked which was mysterious and therefore annoying. I headed over to my hair appointment and got in at 10:30 am and out at about 11:40 am, and all was well with the world. I couldn't get a wax because it was so busy, but did get some floppy disks.
It was then back to the lab where I did next to nothing. The Fulbright Scholar (the new visiting professor) arrived with his family today and so my supervisor and his wife were out helping them settle into their new place. At about 2:30 pm I went over to the ANU Queer Collective meeting where we tossed around some ideas and checked out the proposed Queer space (one place was good, the other sucked). I got to talk to J** (my radar suspect from last time), who is studying at the ANU. She seems nice and interesting, I'll have to try to talk to her again sometime, I know some people are tranny-phobic (lest it blow their cover), but she seems fine and mildly out.
After that it was back to the lab, reading my December copy of Fortean Times and doing no work (hence the good mood). After food shopping I came home and napped between 6 and 8 pm and then I was supposed to call Heather, and decided that since it is light so late to drop by her house because she was home by herself. We had good catch-up chats and then she suggested we go around and visit Susan and Jules and bring Susan ice-cream to welcome her back from Sydney and do the post Xmas catch-up. So, after a stop at the supermarket, we surprised Susan (who wasn't informed we were coming) and had ice-cream and butterscotch schnapps and Bailey's cream liqueur i.e. Yum.
At 11:30 pm Heather and I departed and she dropped me and my bike off at Toad and here I am.
Saturday my Mum will be coming over, and maybe Dad too. That should be nice though obviously I am going to get bugger all work done. Heather is going to the beach Sunday, but I will probably have to decline for the moment. I desperately need to shave my legs and find a hat. The first one is easy, but not the second.
Ok, I figure I'm failing fast (got to sleep at 3 am last night) I shall say good night wherever you beautiful people are, thank you my friends (whatever part of the globe you're on) for being, well, friends…
