Yeah! September 2nd! Aren't you all excited to be back at school!? Get ready for another 36 weeks of brain numbing material spoon fed to you by a 100 different sources! (No matter how many exclamation points are thrown in there, it still sounds like hell on earth, doesn't it?) How many of you were privileged enough to read any of the previous three issues? Come on… let's see a show of hands… Okay, a few of you anyway.
Last year our #1 goal was to be heard and that goal was accomplished. We were heard by the entire school, by the television station, the radio stations, the newspapers and many others as well. The only thing was, none of our points and ideals were heard. Even though we pleaded and begged for the principal and other administrators not to ignore our cries for help, they wouldn't listen to a blasted thing we had to say. They didn't want to acknowledge that they have some major problems in our schools because of their ignorant mistakes.
This year, our #1 goal is to be listened to. Hopefully, everything will be written from a rational point of view that everyone will be forced to listen to. Of course, OUTSIDE! is still a forum for free expression so anything we receive will be printed. Well… almost anything. We are still restricted by a couple of legal guidelines and we won't print anything that advocates violence… but anything else that we receive that has a point will be printed. We would love to get some articles or commentaries from a couple principals or other faculty members. Then again, if they write in they would have to address a problem or two which they would never admit to. "More the fools them, more the pity us." We would also love to receive some poetry, short stories… anything you find interesting!
You see, OUTSIDE! is going through a change of sorts. We are moving away from the school oriented "shock value" items and towards a more "intellectually stimulating forum of free expression." Granted, we would like our main focus to by on school, but that is so limited. Anything you feel is thought provoking, please share it. Government, politics, social issues, theology… ANYTHING!
With any luck, you should be seeing a few Q & A sessions with some of your favorite principals, vice principals and other faculty members. If you keep reading, we'll keep printing it!
