Is it just a phase I am going through?

This is a common question asked by gay teenagers. The reason it is often asked is because homosexuality is often related to being wrong, and not normal. Of course, there is nothing wrong with being gay, and society as a whole is more accepting of homosexuality than a few years ago.

There is no answer to the above question, because some people find that they are attracted to the same sex at a certain age and never change, and others find that they only have a one off relationship that can confirm their sexuality. I have spoken to a friend who is not gay about homosexual stages. He told me that at one time when he was about 13 he thought he might be gay. It was not so much that he found males attractive, but he just a process of elimination, and found out that he was not gay in the end.

I know gay teenagers often hope it is just a phase they are going through. When I was about 13 years old, I thought it was just a phase. Now five years later, I have found out that it was not just a stage. I learned about the more positive sides towards being gay. The most important thing to remember is if it is just a phase that you will "grow out of", then at least you have explored your own sexuality; but if you don’t, it is not such a bad thing - whatever most people think.
