 My Opinion.
As this was the first time I had gone out "En Femme" to a club both Melanie and I were a bit apprehensive.  Things started badly when we got there as after the taxi had dropped us off we couldn't see any obvious way into the club!  There was an obvious entrance into the Golden Lion pub but no sign or anything for Monroes.  So I got Melanie to ask . It turned out that the door on the right leads into a small foyer where you just ring the bell to gain admittance.  This pleased me straight away as it was obvious that they carefully screened people trying to come in, in order to keep out troublemakers :-)

Having paid our admission we walked through into the bar area,it was quite full but I felt immediately at ease as there was another TV sat at the bar. Having got our drinks and sat down we noticed the first benefit of the club.  Not only were no comments passed but we were made to feel welcome by everyone just leaving us alone and letting me relax.  The feeling of just being ignored but obviously welcome was marvellous.  I thought that as the club is advertised a a gay bar we wouldn't meet many people like me, how wrong can you be!  Upon settling down and looking around there were nearly as many TV's and TS's in as there were gay couples :-).

After realising that not only was I welcome but I was amongst friends I got up the courage for a trip to the ladies and a good look around.

The club has three distinct areas to it.  First there is the main bar which seems to act as a social centre, then as you go round to the rear past the toilet area there is a very nice quiet room which is lovely for those moments when you feel like a quiet chat or a rest.  Finally there is the disco area  this is a large bar and disco. This area rivals any nightclub that I have ever been to.

Having visited all three areas during the course of the evening we settled down in the main bar area and struck a conversation with Valerie, Mark and Laurie it seems to be an unspoken rule that people leave others alone unless they show that they want to socialise. What a brilliant attitude :-)

So in my opinion if you are in the West Midlands area and would like either a quiet night on your own or a chance to socialise and meet and make friends  Monroes fills the bill admirably.  We intend to visit regularly from now on :-)
