When talking to people about being Gay and Christian, we often find that when we mention a video that we've seen that helped us become more informed, the first response is "I've never heard of any video programs like that. Where did you find it?". So, like my bibliographies, this listing is not anywhere near the complete list of titles available, but it is a place to start. Most of these videos should be available for under $50. Also, try your local public or college library or video rental store.

"1500 Years of the Church Blessing Lesbian and Gay Relationships: It's Nothing New" (1988)

This is an address Dr. John Boswell made to an Integrity (Episcopal) meeting regarding his research for the book that was eventually published as Same Sex Unions in Pre-Modern Europe. It may no longer be available because Dr. Boswell was somewhat unhappy that this video was made available while he was still doing research for the book and threatened to compromise his access to supporting documents in religious archives in Europe. Still, if you can get a copy, it is well worth watching.

Escape from Exodus: Changing Gays into Straight People Can be Hazardous to Your Health (46 minutes, 1993)

This program is largely a conversation with Michael Bussee, one of the co-founders of Exodus. There is also a small segment with Dave Egan, one of the founders of Homosexuals Anonymous. This program is not as expansive as One Nation Under God  (listed below) and lacks the input of the numerous psychologists and psychiatrists that appear in that video. However, this program allows the viewer to understand Michael Bussee's motivations to create the Exodus program and, how and why it fails to bring about "change" in the sexual orientation of gay Christians.

One Nation Under God (83 minutes, 1993)

Imagine: beauty makeovers for butch lesbians; tackle football for gay men; electroshock orgasmic reorientation ... these and other funny, bizarre, and often terrifying methods have been used for decades to "cure" gays and lesbians of their homosexuality. One Nation Under God  takes us into the strange world of "ex-gay" ministries and "conversion" therapies, revealing shocking techniques used to "straighten" out all those "twisted" souls. The focus is on two former leaders of one of the biggest ex-gay ministries who just happen to fall in love, which adds to the humor of this unique film.

Note: This program is excellent because of the extensive inclusion of on-camera statements by a large number of psychological and psychiatric professionals. Although there is a thread of humor in the program (and it is necessary to counter the shocking program these so-called 'ministers' advocate), this is an excellent program that should be viewed by anyone who thinks there is success in any gay conversion program.

On Being Gay: A Conversation with Brian McNaught (80 minutes, can be viewed in two 40 minute segments, 1986)

On Being Gay  catches award-winning author, counselor and lecturer Brian McNaught at home, at the lectern, and at peace with himself as he talks with enthusiasm and authority about the fallacies, the facts, and, most importantly, the feelings of being gay in a straight world.

The syndicated columnist and author of the highly-regarded book, A Disturbed Peace, Mr. McNaught received the prestigious Margaret Sanger Award for his contribution to the general public's understanding of homosexuality. For two years he served as the Mayor of Boston's Liaison to the Gay and Lesbian Community. Now, through this effective video presentation, he brings to an even wider audience his special gift to communicate.

I have included this video because the second 40 minute segment deals almost exclusively with reconciling homosexuality with Christianity.
