Not a direction | Boiling pots / shivering cowboys | Chlorophilia |
not a direction that pulls you
but the tree that offers you
shade
and grows strong when you lean on it
the fruit whose pulp is there
for you to eat
so that the seeds within may sprout
the wayside pond that slakes
your thirst
whose waters are sweetened by the touch of your lips

my spirit sought green
the color of nature
life-sustaining, empowering
in tropical rain forests
crowning the western ghats
sacred mountains of southern india
in verdant algal rock pools
gems studding the devil's river
the most beautiful spot in texas
in lush mangroves and seagrass
beds
fringing the andaman islands
set in the bay of bengal
in mist-drenched streamside vegetation
where rio claro met pacific ocean
on the osa peninsula, costa rica
my spirit sought green
in remote lands such as these
but i always found my way back home
then one day it led me
to gaze into your eyes
and i was blissfully lost
