The Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches

The UFMCC was founded on October 6, 1968 (just eight months before the Stonewall Riot in New York) by the Rev. Elder Troy D. Perry in Los Angeles, CA. Rev. Perry's vision was for a Christian church which would preach the Good News of God's love for all people to everyone including gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people. Although we are the oldest and largest religious organization in the world committed to serving the gay community, we are not a "gay church". We are a Christian church and we welcome people to worship with us regardless of sexual orientation, age, race, creed, gender, abilities or challenges.

While 80% of those who are members of the UFMCC are gay/lesbian/bi/trans we are increasing in the numbers of active heterosexual members and clergy who have found a comfortable and supportive church home in MCC!

Currently the UFMCC has a membership of over 42,000 people in 15 countries around the world. Starting with that first church service we now have over 300 churches, many in the United States. Other countries include: Argentina, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Dominican Republic, France, Great Britain, Indonesia, Ireland, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Germany, the Philippines, Nicaragua, the United Kingdom and Australia. The average size of most MCC churches is 50 members. Our largest MCC in the world is Cathedral of Hope MCC in Dallas, TX with 3,000 members!

We are a Church committed to celebrating our diversity and open to all. We exist to call people to a NEW life through the liberating Gospel of Jesus Christ, confront injustice through Christian Social action, and create a community of healing and reconciliation.

History of Wichita Falls MCC

WF MCC boasts a rather short yet eventful history. The concept for an MCC in this community started as a dream of a few and blossomed into the hope of many. In October of 1986 the Gay and Lesbian Alliance of WF formed a temporary committee to explore the possibility of establishing an MCC work here. On January 16, 1987 the Rev. Rickie Richards of Lubbock coordinated a meeting of interested persons. The following Sunday, January 19th, the first worship service was held in the lounge room of D.J.'s Pub at 711 10th St.

Having officially become affiliated with the UFMCC in February of 1987, we welcomed our first Pastor, the Rev. David Presley of Ft. Worth. He was accompanied by his spouse, Larry Boyd. On February 10, 1988 the South Central District Committee of the UFMCC upgraded our status from "New Work" to a fully commissioned church.

On September 11, 1988 we occupied our first building at 1014 Wichita St. Our second Pastor, the Rev. Margaret Walker, visioned us in our own building and on January 25, 1995 we purchased our present building on 26th St. God has brought us a long way in a short time! Rev. Margaret and her spouse Monica Warn were with us for 6 years and we were deeply blessed by their ministry to us and to our community.

On August 3, 1997 we hired our first full time Pastor, the Rev. Nancy J. Horvath-Zurn, M. Div. She arrived on November 17th with family. Pastor Nancy served with great dedication, devotion and love for 6 years before answering God's call to move on to other areas of ministry in June 2003.

In January 2004, the Rev. Ed Paul was installed as our Interim Pastor. Rev. Paul is the former South Central District Coordinator and a longtime friend of WFMCC.

Our future is bright and full of hope and determination to continue to be a beacon of God's promise of love for all people!
