We are Grant on the left and Dale on the right.

We live in Melbourne, Australia in an inner city suburb called Prahran and - obviously - are a gay couple. This will be our 8th year together.

We share a nice house built in 1863 that has Edwardian and 1920's additions, including the World's skinniest garage and a good-sized yard.

On the left you can see a rather inaccurate drawing Rebecca did of us at home (Ok, Mum helped with the chimney, door and windows)

That's Shannon, Uncle Dale, Rebecca and Uncle Grant from left to right (according to her). We find it kind of cute, and hope they do find staying over with us as happy as she has drawn it.

How did we meet?

We met in a park!

But before you start imagining all sorts of sordid things it was actually beside a park and it was only 5pm and it was broad daylight (being Summer) and there were other people passing by everywhere.

Grant had been at work and decided to leave on time for once. Dale had gone into the city shopping and we were both on our way home on a balmy late Summer afternoon - Grant riding back to East Prahran and Dale walking back to Prahran proper.

On Birdwood Avenue between the Shrine and the gates to the Botanic Gardens Grant saw Dale walking ahead and thought "Hmmm, he's a bit cute" and we smiled at each other as we passed. So Grant stopped. And so did Dale.

Both of us were too shy to start the conversation but we eventually did start talking and 2 hours later we were still blathering away. We walked back to Prahran together, talking all the time, and parted company after Dale had got a pen and paper from a Chinese restaurant in Malvern Road and given Grant his number.

Grant did call; we went out for drinks and something to eat on Commercial Road and ended up at 2am lying on top of the cricket nets in the Commission block behind the Prahran Pool - holding each other, enjoying the warm night air and looking up at the stars and talking.

And the rest, they say, is history. All these years later ... and we're still talking!

Why does this photo make us look like victims who survived a nasty tanning salon accident???

At Craig and Alison's wedding in a Yarra Valley winery - see we do own suits!

Looking very silly in a couple of dressing gowns Jenny bought back from Hong Kong, with our chicken-wire version of a Xmas Tree complete with Ken doll fairy - the neck thingy on Grant is non-standard, we were about to head off to a New Years Eve dance party. The phone is in view because we were trying to call Kirsty in Scotland and the lines were full - this photo was meant to "prove" we did try to call!
Besides each other; we are very fortunate to have two beautiful nieces, two supportive families and a whole host of wonderful friends.

Workwise Grant has just finished his MBA and has previously worked for 8½ years in a variety of interesting and complex analysis jobs for an oil major; ranging from refinery and logistics analysis to deciding on the buying and selling of oil derivatives for Risk Management. He is a Chemical Engineer by profession and has had to turn his hand to many things during his career - just ask and he will probably be able to work a problem out somehow!.
Here is Grant's Resume

Dale is a Primary Teacher by profession and is currently working as a House Coordinator for the Spastic Society of Victoria. The SSOV helps support some 2000 people with physical disabilities - with those resulting from cerebal palsy the most common - and is working to move many of their clients from the old-style large accomodation units and into shared houses located throughout Melbourne. While this presents it's own challanges it certainly allows the residents to establish something more like a home than a large institutional setting ever could be.
Here is Dale's resume.

We both have an ambition to work and live in Indonesia some day, a desire that has grown with our several visits to the country.

While the rapidly growing economy presents many opportunities to make money (even given the recent currency crisis - it has made manufacturing in Indonesia very cheap), from our own perspective our affection for the country and it's diverse and friendly people is of much greater weight. We simply love the place!

Some photographs our friend Gill took for an exhibition. Placing them on the internet does not really do her work justice - in reality these photographs are 10" by 10", everything is crisp and sharp and they are printed with a slight tinge that gives them softness and warmth.
