About this page....
Speaking as a MtF TS, the internet offer a lot of resources for people like me (or if you are TS yourself, people like us.)
Whether you're TV or TS, there's a whole wealth of material out there for the whole transgendered community on the net.
Most of this information is freely accessible, and is concerned with such diverse topics as:-
- Current medical viewpoints, as regards the issue of transsexual rights.
- Reports on the research taking place into the possible causes of transsexualism.
- Counselling and support groups, some of which are on line, and .
- The effects of different hormone treatments.
- The important issue of just how to go about telling one's close friends and relatives. (often the hardest thing of all)
- Information on cosmetic, but nevertheless matters like one's voice, make-up, hair, electrolysis, and where to buy clothes and shoes.
- Current surgical techniques employed by different doctors.
- The portrayal of transgendered people in the media.
- Humour (after all having a light-hearted attitude to life is important,... to anyone)
- Kewl, safe places for transgendered people to socialise!!!
In short, having access to all this helps....
Below is a list of my favourite transgendered links. I've tried to keep the list as appropriate as possible for TSs living in the UK, because of the contentious birth certificate issue over here, which I believe is a scandalous abuse of human rights.
(In the UK post-op TSs are not allowed to change their birth certificates, affecting the right to have marriages.
Also, in the UK, because of our anachronistic laws, if a MtF TS is found guilty of a crime and sent to jail, she would legally have to be sent to a 'male' prison. In UK jails TSs are often denied treatment, which only compounds the suffering caused by the inevitable violence, and often sexual abuse.
Nevertheless I hope the list is of general interest too, to TSs all over the world....
